QR CODES

QR Codes ("Quick Reference" Codes) are essentially 2dimensional barcodes. They can contain hundreds of times more data than conventional 1-dimensional barcodes. Gaining popularity for marketing to people with smartphones. Generally, users scan the QR Code with a scanning device (for example, the camera on a smart phone), and they are automatically directed to a website or the application specialized to handle the code's data. The idea is to allow users to avoid the hassle of remembering or manually reproducing long, precise strings of data.

AR

AR is a type of virtual reality that generates a view of the real world and combines it with computer generated objects to augment the scene with additional information. Initially, AR is being used with printed subject guides/pathfinders. What it does is to link users to the online version of the subject guides/pathfinders as well as to the web videos included in the list of sources. AR also allows posting and sharing of comments and suggestions through Twitter and Facebook. To try and experience using AR, patrons need to download and install LAYAR (application available for free at Apple App Store and Android Google Play) in their mobile devices. Please note that LAYAR application is Internet dependent. Mobile carrier data charges may also apply. To view the AR content, follow these three simple steps: (1) Open LAYAR application; (2) Point the device to the object embedded with AR; and, (3) Press scan. When LAYAR is done scanning, the digital content of the object will automatically appear.
