Borobudur is one of the
7 wonders in the ancient
world. It is located in
Magelang regency, Central
Java and between two twin
volcanoes, Sindoro-Sumbing
and Merbabu-Merapi, and two
rivers, the Progo and the Elo.

Borobudur is once again used as a place of
worship and pilgrimage. Once a year, during
the full moon in May or June, Buddhists in
Indonesia observe Vesak ( Indonesia :
Waisak ) day commemorating the birth, the
death, and the time when Sidharta Gautama
attained the highest wisdom to become the
Buddh a Shakyamuni. Waisak is an official
national holiday in Indonesia and the
ceremony is centered at the three Buddhist
temples by walking from Mendut to Pawon and
ending at Borobudur tample.
