To figure out which size unit is best for your cooling needs:

Determine the square footage of the area to be cooled using the following formulas: For square and rectangular rooms, multiply the length of the area by its width. For a triangular area, multiply the length of the area by the width and divide by 2.

To figure out which size unit is best for your cooling needs:

Most rooms can be further divided into these basic shapes to determine the square footage. If the shape of your room is other than square or rectangular, ask your sales associate to help you determine the square footage. Using the square footage and the chart below, determine the correct cooling capacity. Cooling capacity is measured in British thermal units (BTUs) per hour.

Airconditioning Size

For rooms, 10 sq. meters and below, use a 0.6 HP window type aircon. Now you and your kids don't need to share a room just to be able to use the aircon. Teach your kids how to be independent and give them the opportunity to learn how to manage your electricity consumption by allowing them to use the aircon in their own room.

Airconditioning Size
Check the yellow energy guide attached to the air conditioning unit to find out the Energy Efficient Ratio (EER). The higher the EER, the more energy efficient the unit is. Install the aircon in a cool area. A unit operating in the shade uses 10 percent less electricity than the same unit operating under direct sunlight

Airconditioning Size
Regularly clean or replace the aircon filter and condenser. A clogged filter will prevent air circulation while a dirty condenser will not efficiently expel the heat load of your airconditioned room.

Don't place lamps, television sets and other heat generating appliances near your aircon. The thermostat picks up their heat, prompting the machine to run longer than necessary.

Airconditioning Size
Using an oversized air conditioner is actually less economical and not energy efficient. Meralco recommends air conditioning units which are properly matched with the size of area or room to be cooled. To determine which size of unit is best for your cooling needs, you may refer to this table:

COMPUTATION .
Area of the room x 25BTU per square foot = the cooling capacity needed .

Example:

Conversion of BTU to HP
Total of the computed cooling capacity / 2545(constant) = horsepower per hour

6 x 9 = 54 sq. Ft 54 sq. Ft x 25 BTU = 1350BTU
