IT IS DESIGNED TO MEET THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF THE LEARNERS. IT MAKES USE OF THE UNDERLYING METHOLOGY AND ACTIVITIES OF THE SPECIALISM IT SERVES.

IT IS CENTRED ON THE LANGUAGE APPROPIATE TO THESE ACTIVITIES IN TERMS OF GRAMMAR, LEXIS, REGISTER, STUDY SKILLS, DISCOURSES AND GENRE.

ESP importance
The increase in vocational training and learning throughout the world. Globalization increased the use English as the language of international communication (used of occupational context). Students study ESP at earlier age because they are starting to learn it so they master general English at a younger age.

TEACHING ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSE


ESP
Students are usually adults with knowledege of English English is learned to communicate professional skills and to perform particular job-related functions. Program: built on an assessment of purposes and needs for which English is required. It concentrates more on language in context. It is integrated into a subject matter area important to the learners. It determines which language skills are most needed by the students. Syllabus is designed accordingly.

ESL
It is learned at any age and Ss do not generally have any previous knowledge. It concentrates on teaching grammar and language structures. All four language skills are stressed equally.
