Design of Steel - Concrete Composite Structures Assignment Case Study

Introduction
Steel concrete composite systems popular because of advantages Combines better of steel and concrete Objective: compare steel and concrete with composite construction Parameters: deflection, size, material consumption, behaviour under seismic forces, foundation requirements and total cost of building

Advantages of composite construction

It has potential in improving the overall performance with modest changes in manufacturing and constructional technologies. If properly configured then it can provide economical structural systems with high durability, rapid erection and superior seismic performance characteristics Thermal expansion of concrete and steel is nearly the same, so there is no induction of different thermal stresses

Conclusion
1. As the results show the Steel option is better than R.C.C. But the Composite option for high rise building is best suited among all three options. 2. In all the options the values of story displacements are within the permissible limits as per code limits. 3. Steel and composite structure gives more ductility to the structure as compared to the R.C.C. which is best suited under the effect of lateral forces. 4. Total saving in the composite option as compared to the R.C.C. results in 10 % so as with Steel it will be 6-7%.
