Origin:

In 1989b y Tim Berners-Lee at CERN(Counseil Europian pour la Recherce Nucleaire) or Europian

Laboratory for Particle Physics, Proposed a new protocol for the internet as well a system of documents access to use it.

By late 1990 the basic ideas for the new system had been fully developed and implemented on NeXT

computer at CERN.

In 1991 the system was ported to other computer platforms and released to the rest of the world

For the form of its document s the system used hypertext, which is the text with embedded links

to the text in other documents to allow non-sequential browsing of textual materials.

From here on we will refer to the World Wide Web simply as web.

Web or Internet?
It is important to understand that the Internet and the

Web are not the same thing. The Internet is a collection of computer and other devices connected by the equipment that allows them to communicate with each other. The Web is collection of software and protocols that has been installed on the most ,if not all , of the computers on the internet.

Web Browsers
Documents provided by servers on the web are

requested by browsers, which are programs running on clients machines. The first browsers were text based The first graphical browser was released in early 1993 named Mosaic, at NCSA. The most commonly used browsers IE, Firefox, Mozilla suit and Netscape navigator, Opera, Apples Safari

Web Servers
Web servers are programs that provide documents to

requesting browsers. Servers are slave programs: they act only when requests are made to them by browsers running on other computes on the Internet. The most commonly used web servers are: Apache IIS Sun One

Introduction to HTML
HTML is defined using the Standard Generalized

Markup Language(SGML),which is an ISO Standard notation for describing text-formatting languages. The original intent of HTML was different from those of other text-formatting languages, which dictate all of the presentation details of text, such as font style, size and color. In late 1994 Berners-Lee started the world wide consortium(W3C), which had as one of its primary purposes to develop and distribute standars for web technologies starting with HTML.
