SYSTEM OF SUPPLY
DIRECT SUPPLY SYSTEM Supply of water given directly to various flows of the bldg. from the mains having sufficient pressure for the sufficient number of hours pressure at fixture is more than required. recommended only if no. of floors are not more 2 to 5. INDIRECT SUPPLY SYSTEM When water pressure in mains is not sufficient for direct supply, water from mains can be either:pumped up into the over storage.tank, usually situated at the roof of the bldg. from where the water is supplied to different floors by gravity. stored into the underground storage tank from where water is pump to the o.h.t & than it is supplied by gravity.

In very tall buildings it is advantageous to use separate drinking and water ground ,intermediate and roof level cisterns. The separate drinking and cold water cisterns spread the load of water storage up the building and limit pressure in the distributing both to drinking outlets and sanitary appliances.

QUANTITY OF WATER:The quantity of water to be stored shall be calculated taking into account the following factors: Hours of supply at sufficiently high pressure to fill up the overhead storage tanks. Frequency of replenishment of overhead tanks ,during the 24 hrs. Rate and regularity of supply. Consequences of exhausting storage particularly in case of commercial buildings. 2.Pressure-reducing vavles are introduced on lower floors for more than 30 to 35mts. Head of water to reduced the water pressure. 3.Separate lines are used for every 4 or 5 floors. If the same line is used for entire building then the upper floor occupants will find it difficult to get adequate quantity of water when the lower floor occupants open the taps.

AIR-CONDITIONING
DEFINITION
Air conditioning is the process of treating air so as to control E simultaneously its temp, humidity, purity and distribution to meet the requirements of the conditioned space, such as comfort and health of the human beings, needs of industrial R processes, efficient working conditions for commercial premises etc. V Air conditioning is perhaps a very important aspect of services. It is needed to provide year round comfort with I help of economical and efficient air-conditioning system. The mechanical ventilation system is also provided C for parking Electrical Sub-station,DG room, AC plant room etc.AC plant has been located in the lower basement. Both E the basements contain a number of Ventilation rooms, fresh air and exhaust air shafts etc. S Air handling units are installed on each floor.

C E S
Air handler can be grouped together in one room or spread around the building in separate rooms and may be stacked over one another in case of multistoried building. They are best located near the center of the area they serve so that the main supply duct can be divided into two branches thus reducing the diameter of the ducting.
The air handlers sizes vary: 5 by 15 by 4 high (2000 cfm) 8 by 20 by 5 high (10,000 cfm) 12 by 25 by 7 high (20,000 cfm) Return fan sizes vary: A4 foot cube (2000 cfm) A5 foot cube (10,000 cfm) A7 foot cube (20,000 cfm)

IMPORTANT TERMS:
sewer: a closed drain carrying night soil and water borne wastes. refuse: it includes all kinds of dry wastes of community (building) manhole: an opening by which a man may enter or leave a drain, a sewer or other closed structure for inspection, cleaning and other maintenance operations fitted with a suitable cover.
I
C E S
soil pipe: pipe which receives the discharge from soil filaments vent pipe: pipe line installed to provide flow of air to or from a drainage system or to provide circulation of air within such system to protect trap seals from siphon age and back flow. ventilating pipe: pipe which provides a safe outlet into the atmosphere for the foul gases in the drain or sewer. sewage includes all kinds of liquid wastes of building.
S
E
R
V
I
C E
storm sewage: includes surface runoff developed during and immediately after rainfall over concerned area.
sanitary sewage: includes liquid wastes of domestic places.
SEWERAGE SYSTEM
COMBINED SYSTEM SEPEARATE SYSTEM PARTIALLY SEPARATE SYSTEM COMBINED SYSTEM: when only one set of sewers is laid, carrying both the sanitary sewage and storm water, it is called combined system. as only one sewer is laid in this system therefore it can also be used in crowded areas, where it is very difficult to lay two sewers. this system can also be sued in areas having less sewage, to obtain the self-cleaning velocity.
S
E
R
V
I
C E S
SEPARATE SYSTEM: when the domestic sewage is taken in one set of sewers, whereas storm and surface water are taken in another set of sewers, it is called separate system. the sewage flows in separate sewer therefore the quality and quantity to be treated is small which results in economical design of treatment works.
S
E
R
V
in the separate system, if portion of storm, water is I allowed to enter in the sewer carrying sewage and remaining storm water flows in separate set of sewers it is C called partially separate system. the cost of pumping is increased at disposal plants than separate system because a portion of storm water is mixed E with sanitary sewage.
SYSTEM OF PLUMBING: in this system only one main pipe is provided which collects both the foul soil waste as well as unfoul waste from the building. the main pipe is directly connected to the drainage system. if this system is provided in multi-storey building the lavatory blocks of various floors are so placed one over the other so that the wastewater discharge from the different units can be carried through short branch drain.
S
ONE PIPE SYSTEM:
R
V
I
C E S
two sets of pipes are laid. TWO PIPE SYSTEM: the soil fixtures such as urinals and water closets are connected to vertical soil pipe. the connections o waste matter from baths, kitchens etc are made to another vertical waste pipe. the soil pipe and the waste pipe are provided with separate vent pipes. it will thus require four pipes and hence it becomes costly. the number of pipes on walls face is also more and if not properly maintained these pipes form nuisance.

CONCLUSIONS
In case of m.s.b. some aims and objectives of sewage disposal to be fulfilled are: Proper disposal of human excreta to a safe place before it starts decomposing and cause in sanitary conditions in the locality. To take out all kinds of waste water immediately after its use so that mosquitoes, bacteria, may not breed in it and cause nuisance. Final disposal of sewage on land or in nearby water courses after some treatment so that receiving land or water may not get polluted and unsafe for its further use.
In unsewered areas, treatment of sewage from individual houses should be done by septic tanks or other suitable means and the effluent should be disposed off.

TYPE OF FIRE PROTECTION Automatic Fire Detecting And Alarm System: R An arrangement of automatic fire detector, such as a fuse working at a given temperature, a thermostat or a fluid filled V tube or an electronic device, for detecting an outbreak of fire. Sounders and other equipment for automatic transmission and indication of alarm signals without manual intervention. I The system also has provision for testing of circuits and, where required for the operation of auxiliary services. C Automatic sprinkler system:An arrangement of piping, sprinklers and connected equipment designed to operate automatically, by the heat of E fire and to discharge upon that fire and which may also S simultaneously give automatic audible alarm.
S The efficiency of a sprinkler system depends largely upon the type of water supply used. An elevated private reservoir must have a minimum volume of water of E between 9 m3 and 875 m3. A suction tank may be used, providing that tank has R minimum volume of water of between 2.5 m3 and 585 m3. The pressure tank must have a minimum volume of V water between 7 m3 and 23 m3. If the water is taken from a river or canal or strainers I must be fitted well below the lowest possible water level. DEFINITIONS RELATED TO FIRE SAFETY & FIGHTING C Fire wall:A fire resistance rated wall having protected openings, which restricts the spread of fire and extends continuously E from the foundation to at least 1m above the roof.
S
Fire tower :An enclosed staircase which can only be approached from the various floors through landings or lobbies separated from both the floors and the staircase by fire resisting doors, and open to the outer air. Fire stop or enclosure of all openings:Where openings are permitted, they shall not exceed three- fourth the area of the wall in case of an external wall and they shall be protected with fire resisting assemblies or enclosures having a fire resistance equal to that of the wall and floor in which these are situated. Fire detecting and extinguishing system:In building of such size, arrangement or occupancy that a fire may not itself provide adequate warning to occupants, automatic fire detecting and alarm facilities shall be provided, where necessary, to warn occupants of the existence of fire.
