As joint founder of the worlds biggest software company, Microsoft, Bill Gatess approach to technology and business was instrumental in making technology available to the masses. Gates stood down as chief executive of Microsoft in 2000 to focus on software development and on 16 June 2006, he announced that he would move to a part-time role with Microsoft in 2008 to focus on his philanthropic work.

Google's co-founders may not have the name recognition of say, Bill Gates, but give them time: Google hasn't been around nearly as long as Microsoft. Like all good genius start-up stories, Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google Inc. in a friend's garage in Menlo Park, Calif. Since its incorporation on September 4, 1998, the company has grown to nearly 20,000 fulltime employees worldwide.

Sabeer Bhatia and Yogesh Patel has started Jaxtr SMS which is a free messaging service that allows users to send text messages for free anywhere in the world.

Narayana Murthy is the Executive Chairman of Infosys Limited, a global software consulting company headquartered in Bangalore, India. He founded Infosys in 1981, served as the CEO during 1981 2002, as the Chairman and Chief Mentor during 1981 2011, and as the Chairman Emeritus during August 2011 May 2013. Under his leadership, Infosys was listed on NASDAQ in 1999.

Vinod

Khosla was a cofounder of Daisy Systems and founding Chief Executive Officer of Sun Microsystems, where he pioneered open systems and commercial RISC processors. Sun was funded by longtime friend and board member John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Mark

Elliot Zuckerberg is an American computer programmer and internet entrepreneur. He is best known as one of five cofounders of the social networking website Facebook. Zuckerberg donated 18 million Facebook shares, worth $500 million at the time, to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation in December 2012 for education initiatives.

As

the creator of the Linux operating system, Linus Torvalds has been a driving force behind the whole open source movement, which represents not only an ever increasing challenge to proprietary software, but is also the inspiration for the industry to move to open standards.
