Why Apocalypse night?
What’s In It For Me (The WIFM factor)
• This is the night of victory.

“He descended into Hades through the cross”

Eph 4:8-10
When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And
gave gifts to men.
Now this, “he ascended” –what does it mean but that He
also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
He who descended is also the One who ascended far
above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
Why Apocalypse night?
What’s In It For Me (The WIFM factor)

• Time to sit with Christ in heaven after he opened

Paradise.
• Time to think about what Christ has done for us on the
cross and praise him for that.
• Transition: from death to life, from pain to glory, from sin
to eternal life through repentance, and finally from
sadness to everlasting joy.
• Heaven is open, so we read about it in detail. We look
closely at it, with yearning, in the book of Revelation.
• How does eternity look like? The answer is in this night.
It is like a dream. You will get a taste of heaven.
I need to get out of my comfort zone to come and
participate in this amazing night:

• Is it easy to come to church at 11:00 PM after

spending the Good Friday in church, and lose your
sleep? Absolutely NOT.

• The devil will be very active at 10:30 PM trying to

convince you to stay home. Before leaving Church
on Good Friday, ask Good for help.

• You will NEVER be disappointed!!!!! The best

conclusion of the Week is Apocalypse.
• Revelation 3:21-22:
“To him who overcomes, I will grant to sit with
Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat
down with My Father on His throne. He who has
an ear let him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches.” This will be the theme of the night.

• This night is a personal encounter with the Lord.

No one can teach you how to enjoy and benefit
from it unless you practice it YOURSELF.

• Psalm 151
– I was small among my brethren and youngest in
my father’s house. I tended my Father’s sheep.
– He sent forth His angel, and took me from my
Father’s sheep, and He anointed me with the oil of
His anointing.
– My brothers were handsome and tall but the Lord
delighted not in them.
– I went out to meet the Palestinian, and he cursed
me by his idols.
– But I withdrew his own sword that was in his hand
and beheaded him and removed the reproach from
the children of Israel: Alleluia
• The congregation responds by a
procession and the exposition of the 2nd
Praise (Hous):
“Let us give thanks to Christ our God
with David the Prophet and Psalmist”.
• A large number of biblical praises and stories. The
General Theme is:
Death leading to life
Pain to Glory
repentance to eternal life.
• Examples
– Moses (the first Hous)
– Hannah (mother of Samuel)
– Jonah
– Hezekiah the King
– Manasseh
– The Three Saintly Youths (the third Hous)
– Story of Susanna (page 549)!!!
• First, third, and sixth hour of Saturday similar to regular
Pascha (prophesy, Homily, Pauline Epistle, Psalm,
Gospel, exposition)
– Notice the transition is the tune.
– Readings focus on preparations for resurrection.
THE APOCALYPSE
The church takes us to the joy and glory of the
resurrection and post-resurrection through the Book of
Revelation.

• The church keeps us awake by the various songs and

responses, the oil/candles, the incense, etc.
• This is a great way for us to experience heaven.
Don’t let Satan put you to sleep, but fight to stay
awake and enjoy the book.
• The last chapters are the most beautiful, talking about
the heavenly Jerusalem as a bride prepared for her
groom (us).

ultimate joy and power of resurrection! You have located
the Treasure.

• What’s In It For Me:

Everything

– If Christ be not risen, then our preaching is vain, and your faith is
also vain (1Cor 15:14).
– And if Christ is not risen, your faith is vain, you are still in your
sins (1Cor 15:17).
