What is Piracy?
Unauthorized use or reproduction of copyrighted material. Anyone who sells, acquires, copies material is called pirate.

Music Piracy
Music piracy can be defined as the stealing of music.

Four Categories: Simple Piracy Counterfeit Bootlegs Internet Piracy

Software Piracy
Unauthorized copying of software. Distributed within the organization or groups for duplication and resale.

SoftwarePiracy
Creating a copy and selling it. Creating a copy and giving it to someone else. Creating a copy to serve as a backup. Renting the original software. Reselling the original software.

Gadgets Piracy
Illegal copying of gadgets for distribution. Example of it are phones from China.

Movie Piracy
Illegal copying of movies for personal or commercial use. New epidemic that is affecting the film industry financially on a global level.

Difference between Original and Pirated


Original movie has a high quality video while pirated has a low quality video. Original cd/dvd has a disc catalog number. Pirated gadgets can be easily damaged.

Republic Act No. 100881 Law: Section 3: Acts Constituting Unauthorized Possession, Use and/or Control of Audiovisual Recording Devices.

Penalties: Php. 50,000 but not exceeding Php. 750,000. 6 months and 1 day or 6 years and 1 day imprisonment.

Negative Effects of Piracy


Music industry loses 4.2 billion a year. Consumers will not buy the original product. Consumers will not support the artist and the film. It may cause economic problems. Loss of jobs.

How to Stop Piracy?


Dont buy pirated products. Report it to the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team (PAPT), Optical Media Board (OMB) or to your nearest Police Station.

Summary
Piracy is the illegal copying of products. The common types of piracy are software piracy,music piracy, gadget piracy and movie piracy. Music piracy is the illegal copying of music for distribution. Software piracy is the illegal copying software for distribution. Movie piracy is the illegal of movie for distribution. Downloading movies from the internet can be considered as movie piracy.

Summary
Gadget piracy is the illegal copying of gadgets. Common examples of gadget piracy are cellphones or products from China. We can identify whether the product is original or pirated. Pirating occurs by the following: file sharing, technology, black market and corrupt countries. Pirating rate is increasing every year. Summary
Imprisonment of 6 months and 1 day or 6 years and 1 day imprisonment. Negative effects are the following: loss of jobs, economic problems and loss of money (music industry). Piracy has no positive effects. Remember: Piracy is a crime. Dont buy pirated products.
