Understanding The 7 Levels of Giving

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Is it Biblical? Who should know about this? Do I need to follow it? What if I disagree? Does it work? Is there a guarantee? Where do I start?

1. Tithe (must be given to your own church)

Luke 11:42 - But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Matthew 23:23 - Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

2. Freewill offering (something given in addition to tithe)

Mark Chapter 12 41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called [unto him] his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For all [they] did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, [even] all her living.

3. Gift Offering (normally given to your own pastor or visiting speaker)

Matthew 8:1-4 King James Version (KJV) 8 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. 2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

4. Giving To The Less Fortunate

(poor, needy, widows, fatherless, orphans etc.)
Matthew Chapter 25 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed [thee]? or thirsty, and gave [thee] drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took [thee] in? or naked, and clothed [thee]? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.

5. Supporting the Local Ministries or Missions

(helping other churches in your city, state or country)
Philippians 4:15-16 King James Version (KJV) 15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. 16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

6. Supporting Foreign Ministries or Missions (helping churches in other nations)

1 Timothy 5:17-22 King James Version (KJV) 17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

7. Martyrdom (dying for the faith if it ever comes to that)

Acts 7:54-59 New International Version (NIV) 54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.56 Look, he said, I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God. 57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

Conclusion
Giving for Gods work requires the right attitude of giving. It requires that you are led by the spirit of God so you plant your seed or seeds in the right soil. Some levels require only your common sense such as tithe. Spend time reading and understanding the bible and what it teaches about giving so that you are not misled. Learn from people who have followed the biblical principles of giving and you see the spiritual, physical and financial blessings in their lives. Dont be asking people who dont give for advise on how to give. This will not help you. Educate yourselves. Buy some good Christian Books.
