SAPs application software foundation is built
on specialization and integration.

Each software application within the SAP
family of products and services meets a
particular need.

Like SAP-ERP , SAP-CRM , SAP-SCM , SAP-
PLM.

Lets take example of order to cash.

It contains different steps like writing sales order
picking from inventory, creating delivery, creating
invoice etc.

Once ordered it will go through SAP-ERP.

But it can be further transferred to SAP-CRM , SAP-
SCM , SAP Net weaver.

Our simple order-to-cash process can become much
more powerful in this way.

By combining different ERP applications businesses
can create Mega-Process.

So far we have learnt that SAP ERP can be broken
down into many different modules.

Each module is used to manage a business area or
functional area for which a particular department may
be responsible for.

Finance department will use the finance module,
shipping department will use material management
module and so on.

In this way, the company benefits from a great
amount of consistency between departments while
giving the companys management the high-level
visibility.

Clients are essentially self-contained business
units within each SAP system.

Using SAPs special user interfaces, you log in to
a client in SAP to actually access and use the
system.

Each systemSAP ERP, CRM, SCM, and so on has
a unique system-specific client you log in to.

A client has its own separate master records.

Each client is a three digit no like 100, 300 etc.

It describes the flow of work (business process
workflows or work streams) in a stepwise fashion.
It describes the qualities to be exhibited by the
business process.
Functional perspective doesnt even mention SAP
because its simply not dependent on a particular
