2. Rewrite sentences with misplaced modifiers; and
3. Integrate the value of respect by listening with the opinions of
others.
It is a word, phrase, or clause that describes or changes the meaning of another word,
phrase or clause in some way.
1. Adjectives modify nouns or pronouns.
Example: They stopped running and stood in the great jungle.
2. Adverbs modify verbs, adverbs, or adjectives.
Example: The children quickly ran in the jungle.
3. Phrases/ Clauses can act as modifiers.
Example: The fish in the pond.
The fish that he caught.
It is a word or group of words intended to describe a noun or
pronoun, but is placed incorrectly within the sentence. It is
commonly found at the beginning and at the end of the sentence
1. Speaking to the state officials, the microphone held the reporter.
The reporter speaking to the state officials held the microphone.
2. I saw a pink and purple house walking down the street.
Walking down the street, I saw a pink and purple house.
We can correct a misplaced modifier by moving
the phrase or clause closer to the word it should
logically modify.
A misplaced modifier is usually a prepositional phrase, a participial phrase, or an
adjective clause.
1.Prepositional phrase- phrases beginning with prepositions.
Example:
a. Sam bought a used car from a local dealer with a smoky tailpipe.
Sam bought a used car with a smoky tailpipe from a local dealer.
b. On paper plates she served sandwiches the children.
She served the children sandwiches on paper plate.
c. The dealer sold the Cadillac to the buyer with leather seats.
The dealer sold the Cadillac with leathers to the buyer.
A misplaced modifier is usually a prepositional phrase, a participial phrase, or an
adjective clause.
2.Participial Phrase- phrases having a form or function of verb. (verb +
-ing/ -ed)
Example:
a. Dripping with hot fudge and whipped cream the banana splits ate the children.
The children ate banana splits dripping with hot fudge and whipped cream.
b. The company created a new toy for children made of plastic.
The company created a new toy made of plastic for children.
c. Grazing on the grass, the women observed the cows.
The women observed the cows grazing on the grass.

adjective clause.
3.Adjective Clause- clause having descriptive words.
Example:
a. Wild and untamed Jack entered the jungle.
Jack entered the wild and untamed jungle.
b. The print is by a famous Dutch artist that my aunt gave us.
The print that my aunt gave us is by a famous Dutch artist.
c. The man was stopped by a police officer who had been acting suspiciously.
The man who had been acting suspiciously was stopped by a police officer

To correct a MISPLACED
MODIFER, you just need to move
logically the modifying word or
phrase next to the word that is
supposed to be described.
Rewrite the following sentences logically. If the sentence is logically arrange, just put letter C at the end of each
sentence.
1. Emma read the laughing loudly cartoon.
2. Shining in the distance, I saw a star.
3. Hal noticed a kangaroo driving his motorcycle.
4. Wagging her tail, the new puppy climbed into my lap.
5. Mary nearly watched two hundred movies last year.
