Summary

Background
This Benchmark Drive Test was done in checking COVERAGE QUALITY
on VMS Mobile Phone GSM 900/1800 network at Mo Lao

The working done at the outdoor and indoor coverage quality should be
estimated by adding -18dBm in the outdoor testing result because of
building penetration loss.

Background summary are as follows:

Idle Mode Analysis

Idle Mode Analysis RxLev

The RxLev in idle mode is 82%

better than -80dBm, it mean that
the signal strength are not good
enough for MS to access to the
system from small of the area

Service Mode Analysis

Service Mode Analysis RxLev

CASE 1

CASE 2

RxLev for Service Mode Case1

CASE 1

- Case 1: poor signal strength from serving cells, poor signal quality also, some cells
overshoot.
- Recommendation: Need to bring new repeater in this area for improving coverage
10

RxLev for Service Mode Case2

CASE 2

- Case 2: poor signal strength from serving cells, poor signal quality also, some cells
overshoot.
- Recommendation: Need to bring new repeater in this area for improving coverage
11

Service Mode Analysis Quality

CASE 1

CASE 2

12

Quality for Service Mode Case1

CASE 1

- The signal of serving cell is good but quality too bad due to interference, C/I very
bad also.
- Need to make strengthen signal of serving cell by install one new repeater here
13

Quality for Service Mode Case2

CASE 2

- The signal of serving cell is bad, quality too bad also due to interference, C/I so bad.
There have some cell overshooting.
- Need to make strengthen signal of serving cell and reduce quality by install one new
repeater here

RxLev for Service Mode Indoor VS Outdoor

OUTDOOR
PLOT

INDOOR
PLOT

- Generally, with the present outdoor coverage MS can make a call, but in the near
feature that should be poor when buildings raising should close the signal.
- With the indoor plot, there must be out of coverage when MS go inside apartment.
- Recommendation: Need to bring some repeater in this area for keep the call indoor

16

GPRS Data Analysis

17

GPRS Analysis Throughput DL

- The quality of DL on GPRS not good very much. The speed DL under
32kbps higher than 38%. However today the priority of GPRS resource not
be considered because of 3G service was implemented in the city
18

Summary
- The Drive Test was carried out inside of the Mo Lao,
located at Hanoi city.
- It have many concentrated personal house here so it is
very important to improve the signal quality in this area.
- The building growth very fast around here that should
make close the signal strength.
- It is strong recommended to bring some repeaters in this
new urban as well as make strengthen signal for some bad
coverage areas.

Background
This Benchmark Drive Test was done for checking Coverage Quality of
VMS Mobifone UMTS network in Mo Lao.
The work performed in the outdoor environment and the indoor coverage
should be interpolated from the outdoor

Idle Mode Analysis

23

Idle Mode Analysis Best Scrambling Code

Unstable dominant
server area

24

Idle Mode Analysis RSCP of Outdoor

As far as outdoor coverage is

concerned, the signal strength
is not good enough!
25

Idle Mode Analysis RSCP of Indoor

Very weak indoor signal
strength area. Almost no
service provision

Unstable indoor signal

strength area, data service
is limited.

However, when come the indoor

coverage, the signal strength is the
problem. It becomes much worse
in case of data service!

Indoor RSCP interpolated by offsetting the outdoor RSCP by ~ -18dB

(accounting for building penetration loss)
26

Idle Mode Analysis Ec/No

27

Service Mode Analysis

28

Service Mode Analysis Best Scrambling Code

Unstable dominant server,

frequent handover area

In WCDMA system, too frequent handover is not recommended

because of wasting resources, interference and reducing data speed.
29

Service Mode Analysis RSCP of Outdoor

The outdoor signal strength is not

good enough, So can not ensuring
the retainability of the call as well as
the voice quality.
30

Service Mode Analysis RSCP of Indoor

Very weak indoor signal
strength area. Almost no
service provision

Unstable indoor most of

area, data service is limited.

However, when come the indoor

coverage, the signal strength is
very poor. Call should be dropped
or bad quality. It becomes much
worse in case of data service!

Indoor RSCP interpolated by offsetting the outdoor RSCP by ~ -18dB

(accounting for building penetration loss)
31

Service Mode Analysis Ec/No

The outdoor Ec/No 88% better than -9dB, So

ensuring the retainability of the call as well as
the voice quality in most of the area.
32

Service Mode Analysis UE TxPower of Outdoor

As far as outdoor uplink coverage is our concern, the

UE just need to transmit at quite low power level!
33

Service Mode Analysis UE TxPwer of Indoor

When come the indoor uplink coverage, in

some areas, the UE need to transmit at a
little high power level quickly run out of
battery.
Indoor UE Transmit Power interpolated by offsetting the outdoor UE Transmit
Power by ~ -18dB (accounting for building penetration loss)
34

HSDPA Data Analysis

35

HSDPA Data Analysis Carrier RSSI

36

HSDPA Data Analysis BLER

As far as the outdoor voice service is concerned, the

voice quality is not good enough!
37

HSDPA Data Analysis RLC Throughput DL

Taken numerous reasons for low throughput problem: FTP server capability, poor
radio link, code resources, transmission bandwidth , the RLC throughput in the
outdoor environment is not good enough for some areas.
38

HSDPA Data Analysis App Throughput DL

The Application throughput is good at most of the area.
