Magazine 1

Secondary imagines
The secondary imagine on this magazine is in the top
right corner with a subline of text underneath giving
information about the photo, normally used to break up
the cover instead of having all coverlines. This
secondary imagine is advertising events at clubbing.

Masthead
The masthead is central at the top of the page. The font
of the text is unique to make it easy identifiable from all
other magazines. The masthead is just below the skyline
and the largest text on the page. With all these elements
to the masthead it makes the buyer know that it is the
name of the magazine. The masthead also follows the
house style by the front and colour theme.

Sky line
THE WORLDS BIGGEST DANCE MUSIC AND CLUBBING
MAGAZINE the sky line is always a strip of writing above
the masthead which normally is a advisement however
this skyline has a positioning statement inside the text. A
positioning statement self-promotes the magazine, so by
saying its the the worlds biggest they're saying they're
the leading magazine for this genre.

Main coverline
The main coverline is the feature that links to the cover
star on the front cover. It is the second largest font and it
is the text that the buyer will be drawn to first. It could
include the whole cover line or just the cover stars
name. for example ANNIE MAC is the name of the girl
on the front of this issue. This cover line has a
subheading underneath for further information, is she
ready for the biggest job in dance music?

Cover star
The cover star is the star on the front cover, usually a
famous, popular person that makes the magazine sell
more copies due to the cover star. The cover star on
this issue is Annie Mac a well known presenter and
Radio 1 DJ. The photo on this issue is medium close up,
central and direct address. All these features make
the cover have a more professional finish.

Puff
The puff is a shape on the front cover which is normally a
circle or a star. However on this cover it is a different
shape, it is more of a medal sash shape. The puff
advertises something inside the magazine, for example
this puff is adverting FREE MIX CD. The capital letters
draw the buyer in and the word FREE make the buyer
want to buy the magazine.
Coverlines
The cover lines in this issue around all positioned
around the imagine, overlap the image slightly.
These cover lines are all brief sentences about the
features inside the issue, they include buzz words
which are words like WIN! EXCLUSIVE!, these words
draw the buyer in. the sublines under the cover line in
the smaller text are used for extra information that
further informs. All the cover line follow the house
style.

By-line
The by-line is normally on the inside on the article page,
however this one is on the front cover. The by-line is giving
information about the name of the coverstar ANNIE
MAC the name of the photographer DAVID ELLIS

Issue information and bar code


The issue information is the information about the date
and price. This usually gives the buyer an idea if the
issue is monthly or weekly and the price is easy to find
because it is always next to the bar code. The bar
code is always at the bottom or side of the magazine,
never in the middle of the cover so that it is not
getting in the way of the imagine or cover lines. The
bar code is never on the back so that it is easy for the
buyer to find when it comes to scanning the
magazine.

Masthead
The mast head is usually one two words central and
at the top of the cover, however this masthead is
unique and remunerable because it is only one letter
and to the top left of the cover page. The masthead
is the largest text or letter on the page so that the
buyer knows that it is the name of the magazine.
Main cover line
The main cover line on this magazine issue ,is the
feature that links with the cover star. The cover star
is R&B rapper Jay-z and the cover line says his name
in larger font size then the rest of the cover lines.
With the writing being larger, it indicates that it is the
main feature in the issue is about him. The cover line
follows the house style by the colour theme and
font.
Cover lines
All the cover lines in this issue are all positioned
down one side of the magazine not overlapping
the main image. This is different from most
magazines because most magazines have the
coversine's around the imagine on both sides. These
cover lines are brief sentences that give information
about the features inside. These cover lines are all
quotes from inside the issue giving the buyer
snippets of the articles inside. This makes this
magazine unique from others because it uses just
quotes instead sentences.

The house style


The house style is the font style, font size, colour theme, shape and background colour. This house style is
colours red, gold, white and black, with the photo on a plain white background. With the white background,
the photo and writing appears more visible and gives off a more professional finish. The font style is all the
same and also all in capital letters. The font size is different depending on the text content, for example the
main cover line will be a larger text.

Skyline
The sky line is always a strip of writing above the masthead
which normally is a advisement. This is uses buzz words like
exciting and statements like THE 10 MOST EXCITING
PEOPLE, the features of the skyline draw a buyer in. the
skyline also follows the house style.
Puff
The puff is a shape on the front cover which is normally a
circle or a star. The one on this cover is a circle
overlapped by a smaller circle, the puff advertises
something inside the magazine, for example 42 PAGES OF
REVIEWS. The puff breaks up the text on the cover making
it look for interesting and less boring.
Cover star
The cover star is the star on the front cover, usually a
famous, popular person that makes the magazine sell
more copies due to the cover star. The cover star on this
issue is Jay-z ,the biggest R&B rapper, hiphop artist. Useally
the photo on this issue is medium close up, central and
direct address. All these features make the cover have a
more professional finish. However this cover star is slightly
to the left and not central but still has all the same effects
on the buyer.

magazine has. The masthead also has smaller text
inserted inside the masthead. This also makes the
masthead unique. With all these elements to the
masthead, the buyer will know that it is the name of
the magazine.

The main cover line on this magazine issue ,is the
feature that links with the cover star. The cover star
is a new DJ called Hardwell and it says his name in
the main coverline therefore the buyer will know
that the main cover line is about him. The cover line
follows the house style by the colour theme and
font and with the main cover line being a different
colour to the other coverlines below it makes it
stand out more on the page.

This photo is more of a medium longshot but still has all the
same affects. All these features make the cover have a
more professional finish. With the background of the
photo-shoot being white it makes the cover star stand out
a lot more.
