The pulse counter logic function

counts externally generated
binary pulses, e.g. energy
meters

The normal use of this function is

counting energy pulses for kWh
and kvarh in both directions

The external meters are

connected to a separate version
of the BIM module

The pulses are captured by the

binary input module and then
read by the pulse counter
function

The counter is reset at

initialization of the IED

The number of pulses in the

counter is then:

Reported via the station bus to the

SA system

Read via the SMS as a service

value

The frequency can be up to 40 Hz

Debounce filter time is fixed to 5

ms

The inputs can be any of the 16

binary input channels on any
binary input module

All 16 inputs can be used for pulse

counting

The module can be located in any

slot in the IED
