WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?

Leadership is a process of social influence, which


maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement
of a goal.

Leadership is the art to of influencing and directing people


in such a way that will win their obedience, confidence,
respect

and

loyal

Situational Leadership Model
This theory states that theres no single or best style of
leadership. This theory has two fundamental concepts:

Maturity Levels of Individuals

Leadership styles:

Telling (S1)

Selling (S2)

Participating (S3)

4.

Delegating (S4)

Maturity Levels:
1.

M1: Low maturity

2.

M2: Medium maturity, limited skills

3.

M3: Medium maturity, high skills but lacks confidence

4.

M4: High maturity


The situational model suggests that leader has to identify
the maturity levels of his followers and accordingly
implement appropriate style of leadership.

CONTEMPORARY LEADERSHIP
Effective leaders are those who have the cognitive and
behavioral capacity to recognize and react to paradox,
contradiction, and complexity in their environments. There
are three popular theories of contemporary leadership:

Transactional Leadership:

Based on exchange of services for various rewards that the

leader controls.

Leader has to identify the needs of follower and motivate


him with desired rewards in order to achieve goals.

Transformational Leadership

The collective action that transforming leadership generate


empowers those who participate in the process.

Leaders and their followers raise one another to higher levels


of morality and motivation.

Charismatic Leadership

Charismatic leaders have supernatural powers over their


followers.

They are capable of having profound and extraordinary effects


on followers by using their personal abilities and charm.
