IGNITER

GENERAL
The H.E. igniter/ our newly
develop electric igniting device
adopting special semi
conductor plug, performs
ignition by low voltage and high
energy electric discharge
depended upon in order
conventional igniter.

The H.E. igniter is almost free from such an

accident as insulation destruction of leakage
the application of as low as 2000V at the maximum
its sparking is free from interference by adhesion /
deposition of oil drops or carbon on the electrode
its sparking is free from interference by adhesion /
deposition of oil drops or carbon on the electrode
its very high energy per sparkling enables a
direct ignition to atomized heavy oil in any type
of burner

This device is composed of

source unit and plug carrier:
the source unit contains a
charge-discharge circuit
condenser, rectifier,
transformer, and spacer; the
plug carrier is provided with
ignition plug.

OPERATIO
N
AC voltage added to the primary side of the

transformer is transformed to 1,700 V at the

secondary side, and then charged to the
condenser after being rectified in the
rectifier. Terminal voltage of the condenser
rises in accordance with the constant of
the resistance capacitance including series
resistance and condenser; then, when the
condenser terminal voltage reaches
discharge start voltage (approx. 1400V) of
the spacer (constant voltage discharge
tube) , the spacer discharges electricity

this time, internal resistance of the

spacer drops remarkably and
therefore the energy charged in the
condenser is fed to the spark plug
and instantly discharged from the
sparked plug. Then, due to the
discharge, the condenser terminal
voltage approaches 0V and the
circuit returns to initial state.
Charge-discharge operation is repeated as shown above, at
about 1 second interval.

INSPECTION
Prior to the inspection of the circuit,
be sure to check that the condenser
is not charge after shorting the
condenser is not charge after
shorting the condenser both
terminals by means of a driver or the
like.In case of no discharge from the
plug, execute inspection in
accordance with the sequence
below:

INSPECTION
Detach the cover of the source
unit, and then turn on the power
switch to put the circuit into
operating state.

INSPECTION
check for the discharge
between both electrodes of the
spacer

INSPECTION

In case the spacer electrodes

are charging electricity @ 1
second interval: there must be
some shorted portion between
the plug carrier and high
voltage cable; therefore,
carefully inspect each portion.

INSPECTION

In case the spacer electrodes are

continuously discharging
electricity;
There must be such a fault as
failure of plug, disconnection of
cable, or imperfect contact of high
voltage receptacle between the
plug carrier and high voltage cable;
therefore, disassemble and inspect
each portion

INSPECTION
Turn off the power switch of the
source unit, and then sort both
terminals of the condenser; if
large spark is found this time,
the cause is attributed to failure
of the spacer so; replace the
spacer

INSPECTION

If no spark yet, inspect the transformer, rectifier,

condenser, and series resistance.

TRANSFORMER: Measure continuity between the terminals,

and terminal voltage if possible- - by means of high voltage
tester.
CONDENSER : Connect an ohmmeter between both
terminals to check for short; charge resistance of 4.3M are
inserted in both terminals, so the ohmmeter shows that value
if the condenser is normal.
RECTIFIER:
Measure the resistance ratio of forward
and reverse direction by means of a megger; if the ratio is
100:1 or more, the rectifier may be judge as normal.

MAINTENACE OF PLUG
For maintenance, special care must be taken in the
following items.

Do not clean the discharging faces.

A semiconductor is built in the discharging face; thus, cleaning of the

discharging face especially by means of wire brush will result in
peeling of the semiconductor.

Such a large spark as to stain the discharging face is a characteristic

of this plug; so, do not clean the face even if it is stained.

Take care in insertion of the plug carrier.

Insert the plug carrier to the present optimum position.

NOTE:
Insufficient insertion of the
plug can result in
impossibility of ignition; on
the other hand, excessive
insertion can result in
shortening of the plug life.

MAINTENACE OF PLUG
The center electrode of the plug is
gradually worn as sparking is repeated;
the plug can be used as long as its wear is
within 3mm or so.

However, further wear makes

sparking interval irregular and will result
in no spark generation at last.
As a rough guideline, a plug is durable up
to 10,000-cycle sparking, but notes every
plug life differs remarkably according to
service condition.
