TURBOJET TYPE AUTOMATIC

BURNER CONTROL EQUIPMENT

1.Outline of operation

This control equipment is consisted of combined

controls of the proportional position control and
the on/off control. Namely, during the burner is
burning, detecting the boiler steam pressure, the
combustion rate can be continuously regulated,
according to the signal value of the pressure
converter, which is used as a controlling despatch
device; or when the steam pressure is raised to an
upper limit value, the burner can be automatically
extinguished by means of pressure switch or when
dropped to a lower limit value, the burner can be
automatically ignited.

The following safeguard devices are provided :

no voltage of power circuit

low water level of boiler
decrease of oil temperature
overload of forced draft fan
flame failure during combustion
low oil pressure of fuel oil.
When any of the above safeguard devices has
detected abnormal condition, the burner is to be
automatically extinguished, and even if the starting
switch has turned to the start, the burner cannot be
ignited again, unless the abnormal condition
changes into the normal operational condition.

2. Classification into block units

This equipment is classified into the following
blocks:

Timer Unit
Ignition Unit
Flame Detecting Unit
Proportional positon controlling Unit
Switch and pilot lamp Unit

3. Procedure of operation

First, it should be confirmed that every

damaging factors in the piping arrangement
has been perfectly removed by flashing it.

The voltage and the frequency, etc. of the

electric source should be checked that they
have been correctly connected with the
equipment.

3.1 START

* First it should be confirmed that the electric

source pilot lamps, PL1 and PL2 are being lighted.
*Starting the oil pump and the oil heater, the oil
heated to the preset temperature, should be
circulated through the equipment.
*When the oil thermometer has shown the preset
temperature, the start switch , IB , should be
turned to start
*It should be confirmed that the low oil temperature
pilot lamp, PL2 , is not being lighted
*The fan will be started and the gas in the furnace
will be purged.

*After 47 secs the fuel oil valve 21Q will be

opened and the burner will flame up.This valve
is being opened during 7 secs , from 47-54
secs.
*Since the flame detecting device , FDR will
detect it , and then the continuous combustion
will be begun and primary air damper open.
After the flame present pilot lamp PL5 has
been lighted , the automatic combustion will
be performed, increasing or decreasing the
combustion rate by means of the signal from
the
orand
thepilot
boiler
*The pressure
conditions ofconverter
each switches
lampssteam
during
pressure.normal combustion are as follow
-The timer , 34M ,is stopped at 66 seconds position.
-The electric source pilot lamps , PL1 and PL2 and the flame
presence pilot lamp , PL5 are lighted.
-The bypass switches 3S-23Q and 3S-FDR are in off
position

3.2 STOP

*The position of the start switch IB is to be

changed over to the stop

*Then the fuel oil valve, 21Q, will be closed

immediately, and stops the combustion.

*The F.D. fan will purge for 54 seconds before

stopping.

*Pilot lamps PL1 and PL2 are lighted.

*Timer 34M is set to Zero. And the proportional

control device to low combustion rate.

3.3 Case of Flame Failure during

combustion:

*Fuel valve 21Q to changed to Circulating

position, after purging for 54 secs, the ignition
procedure is performed again.

*If it does not get ignited, it is put into Lockout

Position, PL4 is ignited and buzzer is sounded.

*The gas in the burner is purged for 59

seconds, and burner is stopped.

* The burner cant start from this position

unless the reset button is pressed.

3.4 Case of Low Oil Temperature during

Combustion:

*If the thermostat senses low oil temperature

than the set pressure, the relay 4 is activated
along with PL3 and buzzer is sounded.

*The furnace is purged for 54 seconds and then

the burner is stopped.

3.5 Case of Overload of forced draft fan:

* The fuel valve 21Q is closed and the oil path

is set to circulation.

*Flame is extinguished and the PL4 is ignited

with a buzzer.

*The timer is set back to Zero.

*Reset is required for Electro magnetic switch

and the burner reset button.

3.6Case of boiler high and low water level:

*If the water level is low than the preset value

then PL6 and alarm are activated.

*Burner is stopped if the low level further

reduces.

* The burner is restarted again after purging.

4.Sign and Counter Plan for failure:

The equipment cannot start, even if the start

switch has turned to start

Equipment can start, but it cannot be ignited.

Equipment is spontaneously stopped during

combustion.

Even if the start switch IB is in stop position,

the equipment is not stopped.

4.1 The equipment cannot start, even if

the start switch has turned to start

*First, ascertain the lights out of the low oil temperature

pilot lamp PL3.
*Ascertain the normal level of the boiler water.
*It should be ascertain that the boiler steam pressure is
not at the upper limit, that is at which the burner is
extinguished automatically by means of on/off control
by the steam pressure gauge.
*Ascertain the light of the electric source pilot lamps
PL1 and PL2.
*Ascertain the perfectness of every fuses. When the
fuel is cut off, the pilot lamp PL2 fitted on the upper part
of the panel does not light.
*Try to push the reset button.

*After the above described ascertainments have been

completed, the circuit of the outer interlock connections are
tried to short circuit.
If the equipment start at this time, some of the
apparatus connected to the outer interlock connection are in
a failure
The 23Q contacts are to be short circuited. If the equipment
starts at this time, the oil temperature regulating thermostat
is in a wrong condition, and therefore it should be readjusted
or exchanged. *When it does not start by the short circuit of
23Q and 5FB contacts should be short circuited. If it is
started by this, the B contact of the relay 5F is wrong, and
therefore it should be inspected and adjusted or exchanged.
*The B contact of the outer interlock contact are performed in
the same inspection method, and the contact of the timer,
the by-pass switch and the start switch IB should be
inspected and exchanged respectively.
*When it is not started by the above inspection method, the
relay coil 4 and the circuit line will be cut off or their
contacts will be wrong and so it is necessary to repair or
exchange these parts.

4.2 Equipment can start, but it cannot be

ignited.
*Ascertain that the spark is being produced.
*For H.E. igniter, refer the explanation note, filed in the rear.
*When this spark discharge of H.E. igniter have been
confirmed, it may be decided that cause of failure is in the
main burner.
*The oil temperature should be checked, whether it is at the
predetermine value by means of the thermometer fitted on
the header outlet or the actual measurement. If the
indication of the thermometer is wrong, it should be
readjusted or exchanged.
*Ascertain the operation of the fuel oil valve solenoid21Q.
After 47 sec from start, the sound bang is heard and the
solenoid is to work so as to open the fuel oil valve.

*If the solenoid does not work, inspect the circuit; if the
circuit is broken, exchange it. Moreover this solenoid is
the standard one of the maker.
*After this solenoid has been exchanged or repaired,
ascertain that it is in a relative position such as condition
that the valve arm is being fully pushed into the attracted
piece, being fully contacted with the fixed piece.
*If there is a roar or an extraordinary generation of heat,
they are the sign that the relative position is slipped down
from regular position.
*The dirtiness of the atomizer and the position of the burner
etc should be ascertained and inspected.
*When the confirmation and repair of the above description
have been completed and the fuel oil valve works, there
is no clogging in the oil pipelines and no leakage in the
pipe arrangement and valves etc. When the H.E.igniter
has been ignited and the valves have been opened, the
fuel oil being sprayed should ignite the burner.

4.3 Equipment is spontaneously stopped

during combustion.
*When the flame is extinguished and the equipment is
stopped, they may be caused by the factors above (4.1
and 4.2)
*It should be ascertain that the stop is not caused by the
pressure switch owing to the boiler steam pressure raised
up to the set upper limit.
*Ascertain that the water level in the boiler is in normal
condition.
*Ascertain than the fan is running.
* If the oil temperature is lowered the burner stops.
*When the equipment is stopped in spite of the flame is
burning, it should be run opening the front door of the
control panel and switching on the bypass switch,
immediately after the main burner has been ignited. If it
can be run at this time, the ignition detection devices FD
and FDR are incorrect.

*The detection part should be withdrawn and the lens glass

etc should be cleaned, and wiped.
*The contact of the pin part of the relay unit should also be
inspected.
*Moreover, the characteristics and the specification of the
Cds should be referred to the appended figures.
*It should be ascertained whether the settlement of the trip
percentage is good or not.
*In order to see whether the overload relay the electromagnetic switch for the F.D. fan motor is working or not,
push the reset.
*Even if the front glass, section of the Cds is being broken,
there is no bad influence upon the work now.

4.4 Even if the start switch IB is in stop

position, the equipment is not stopped.

*Opening the door of the control panel, try to

cut off the connection of either 1B switch.

*When the equipment stops in this case, the

start switch IB will be failed, and therefore
inspection and adjustment or renewal of the
switch should be done.

5. About the equipment fitted with manual

operation switch.
5.1. When the start switch IB has been set
to stop, the following steps can be
operated by the manual switch:
*Start and stop of fan [43-52F]
*Start and stop of spark [43 ISU]
*Opening and closing of fuel oil valve [4323Q]
The objective of this handling is to confirm the work
or to use for the sake of an extraordinary occasion,
and therefore it is desirable not to use in normal
condition.

Steam Blow Circuit:

A steam device is installed in order to blow residual oil
out of the sprayer body.
Conditions:
The heavy oil pump operates and the oil pressure is 18 to
21 Kg at circulation.
[if the oil pressure is not applied to the control valve,
steam may blow into the oil side.]
Operation:
When the steam blow switch on the panel is set at
blow, at extinction [incl. Off due to boiler pressure
increase, intentional stoppage, accidents, etc.] and
misfiring, the cam timer rotates after 66 sec. And the
steam solenoid valve opens 72 sec. Later, then steam
enters into the sprayer body to purge the residual oil.
[Setting time is about 10 sec.] The HE ignitor also
operates on activation of the solenoid valve.
Subsequently, after-purge is done and the fan stops 120
sec. Later.

Selection of blow circuit:

It can be considered that the burner is turned on off at all times

during anchorage, it is practical to set the blow circuit switch at
OFF during anchorage.

Steam is not blown but after-purge is done after 66 sec.

When predicted that automatic additional burning is required
during navigation, set the steam blow changeover switch at
BLOW, then the above steam blow will be done.
When heavy oil A is used, steam blow is necessary.

Maintenance:

In case of steam leakage through solenoid valve, completely

tighten up the check valve.
Steam solenoid valve and reverse drain solenoid valve,
completely tighten up the check valve.
Steam solenoid valve and reverse drain solenoid screwed check
valve, completely close the check valve to stop injection of oil
from the drain solenoid valve outlet.
