The LCD Projection Television service
police is; "Board Level Repair". It's not
necessary for a PWB to be replaced if
there can be found a simple repair.
PWBs and the Engine does not require
Authorization to order.
NOTE: When returning a PWB that has
been replaced, there is a form that
comes with the replacement PWB.

Pull out subwoofer as shown,

to access the upper cabinet wires.

Top Removal Control Panel Wiring


Disconnect all the wires. Pay special attention to the Wire Dress and how
these wires are dressed inside the cavity behind the Sub Woofer. Cavity
seen in the above picture. Pay special attention to removing the Power
Switch connector. Sometimes this can be overlooked.

Now lift the top straight up. (2 person lift!)

This picture show the LCD Projector with the Top Cabinet
removed. Lamp door and Lamp also removed.

REASSEMBLY PROCEDURE NOTES
REINSTALLING THE SUB WOOFER:
BOTTOM BACK COVER INSTALLATION:

Engine Removal Back Bracket


Remove this bracket. 4 screws. (6 total),

but top 2 have already been removed when the top cabinet
assembly was removed.

Remove the Ballast Assy. (4 screws). Pay close attention to
the wire dress

This shows the Ballast and Exhaust screen assembly which has been
swung over to the right to reveal the Lamp ballast wires.
Remove Lamp Power Connector retaining bracket, then Lamp Power
Connector. (1 screw). After metal retaining clip is removed, pull wires
straight back and out.

Remove Fan Exhaust Housing (back screw is hidden in this view)
(2 screws).

attention to this removal process as re-assembly can be slow with
unfamiliarity.

Engine Removal Lamp Switch


Remove Lamp Switch PWB. (2 screws).

Note just above this switch is the Air Duct Temperature sensor. This
switch is normally "open" until a high temperature is sensed. Then it
closes.

Engine Removal Base Screws


Remove the 5 screws holding down the Engine Assy. Use a stubby #2
Philips head as needed.

Remove the 5 screws holding down the Engine Assy.

Engine Removal Upper Bracket


Remove upper bracket, so Engine assembly can be pulled out the back.
During this process, you must pay very close attention to the Wire Dress.
All wires routed from the back left to the back right side are held in place
by wire dress clips. When re-installing this bracket, the wires must be
dressed back into their original placement.

Remove the Left and Right hand top plastic covers around the Lens.

Remove the plastic cover around the Lens.

Engine Removal Signal PWB Removal


To make the engine removal procedure easier, disconnect all connectors
on the Signal PWB and slide it back and out. This will free up room to
manipulate the engine during removal.

Some Connectors must be removed.

Engine Removed
This picture shows the New replacement Engine assembly on top. Here
you can see the engine assembly comes complete with all necessary
PWBs, fans and sensors to allow operation. It does not come with a new
Lamp Switch.

Engine Reassembly

To install new Engine Assembly, Reassemble in reverse order of


disassembly. To remove the old engine, lift it straight up and then pull the
left hand side to the rear first.

Re-installation notes:
Care must be taken with installation and wire dress. Careful notice
during disassembly should have been taken to observe the wire dress.

The Signal PWB contains the Microprocessor I001 for
projection operation.

AUDIO PWB

This PWB converts the incoming signal to a usable format


for mapping onto the LCD module. This PWB is supplied
with SW +15.5V and SW +5V. This PWB has the following
regulators +13.5V, +5V, +3.3V and +1.8V.
These are the three TFT Active Matrix LCD modules that
make up the primary colors producing the image on
screen.

This PWB houses the Digital Picture card reader for

This PWB supplies drive to the Lamp. 100Watt, UHP


Lamp with an Arc length of 1mm.

Temp Sensor
PWB

Warning switch monitoring the temperature of the Lamp. If


the lamp overheats, the set will not operate.

Door Switch PWB

Warning switch connected to the Lamp Door. If this door is


left open, the set will not operate.

DVI PWB

This PWB is the interface for the DVI connection to the


Signal PWB.

Lamp Replacement Warnings


Lamp Replacement Warnings and Notes:
After extended use, if the TV picture turns dark, the color looks unusual or LAMP INDICATOR light
turns on, then it is time to replace the lamp with a new lamp.
Lamp Life
The lamp life may vary based on usage of the LCD Rear PTV. Turning on and off frequently may
shorten the life of the lamp.
WARNING:
The lamp gets very hot! The lamp may explode if improperly handled. To avoid injury, please
observe the following precautions.
CAUTION!
A "LAMP" indicator will light when lamp becomes hot. Unplug products power cord from the AC
outlet and allow lamp to cool for at least 30-45 minutes. If "LAMP" indicator is still lit, check the lamp
unit assembly.
NOTES:
Contact your Hitachi dealer for a new lamp unit. Using other lamps may cause damage to the TV
Set.

Lamp Replacement 1
LAMP REPLACEMENT (CONT.)
1. Turn off the main power switch and unplug the power cord. Wait at least 30 minutes to allow the
lamp to cool down before replacing it.
NOTE: THE LAMP IS VERY HOT AND MAY CAUSE FIRE OR SEVERE BURNS. WAIT AT LEAST
30~45 MINUTES TO ALLOW THE LAMP TO COOL BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH LAMP
REMOVAL.

2. Remove the front cover from the TV set. This is held by a snap on. Pull the front cover outwards
until the quick snap on disengages.

3. Remove the screw securing the lamp cover with a Phillips head screw driver as shown. Remove
the lamp cover.

4. Remove the two screws that hold the lamp in place. Remove the lamp unit by holding the lamp
handle, then pulling outwards. Exercise caution when removing the lamp unit to avoid injury to your
fingers. NOTE: DO NOT PUT YOUR HAND IN THE LAMP STORAGE AREA AFTER THE LAMP
UNIT IS REMOVED, YOU MAY GET BURNED.

5. Replace with the new lamp.
Place the removed lamp into the empty box of the replacement lamp. Do not touch the front glass of
the new lamp or its receptacle. This may shorten the life of the lamp and reduce the picture quality.
Push the lamp unit back to its original position.
Tighten the screws firmly on the lamp unit. If they are loose, the TV may not operate correctly.

6. Without installing the lamp cover, the power will be off and the Lamp Indicator will flash (see page
23). Be sure to install the lamp cover by re-engaging the two clips and tighten the screws before
turning the power on, otherwise it may cause unusual colors.

NOTE: IF POWER IS CONNECTED BEFORE THE LAMP COVER IS INSTALLED, THE POWER
WILL BE OFF AND THE LAMP INDICATOR WILL FLASH (See Front LED Explanation).

7. Install the front cover as shown below. Put the front cover back in and align the snap on quick
connect then push inwards holding the left and right side of the front cover until you hear a snap.
Push the other snap on gently to make a good fit.

8. Plug power cord into AC outlet and turn on the main power switch.
