Beating--1

Weaving--1

Beating up
Beat up is third primary movement of
the weaving. The process of pushing
the newly inserted weft to the
already woven fabric at the point
known as the fell of the cloth is
called beating up.

Objective
The main purpose of beating up are
mentioned below: To push the newly inserted weft to
the fell of the cloth.
To produce compactness on the
fabric.
The purpose are achieved by moving
the sley in forward & backward.

Illustration of crank beat up

In this mechanism newly inserted pick is pushed by
reed once. Most fabric producing in this way are not
too compact.
Construction:1. The lower end of sley sword is pivoted with rocking
shaft.
2. The crank arm is fulcrum to the sley sword by the
connecting /sword pin and is bent on the crank shaft.
3. The reed is connected with sley race.
4. A crank shaft is given rotating motion belt drive from
motor. As the crank revolves a swinging motion is
given to the sley.

Illustration of crank beat up

Working procedure: When the crank comes in forward center position it pushes the crank
arm is forward direction.
Sley race is connected with the crank arm an need is situated on the top
of the sley race, so the reed also goes forward & sense the newly
inserted pick in the fell of the cloth.
It is mentionable that forward center of the crank is called beating
position & the back center position is called shedding & picking position
because in back center position the crank pulls the reed & at that time
shedding & picking occurs.
Some factors are as follows regarding beat up action:1. The crank arm-length is decreased on increased to the adjust beat up
force.
2. Long crank arm causes stronger beating force shorter crank arm causes
weaker beating.

Double beat up mechanism

Double beat up mechanism

If after inserting a pick two beat up
occurs successively one revolution of
crank shaft it is called double beat-up
action.
Canvas, triplear, tent fabric are made
to use this mechanism.

Double beat up mechanism

One end of the arm is hinged with framing & other end is attached to
sley by connecting pin. Between two arms there is knuckle joint which
can be bent upward & be straight.
As in the figure in the revolution of crank the arms become stright in
two positions G & hand become bent in one position K as shown in
figure a & b.
When the arm become straight for the first time at the position G then
first beat up occurs i.e. the reed is pushed & when the arm become
straight far the second time at the position H then the second beat up
occurs. So in one ratio of crank shaft two beat up occurs.
The time that elapses between the first & second beat up can be
increased either by moving the crank center up or by lengthening the
arm.
The time can be reduced by lowering the crank or by shortening
connecting arm. The force of beat up can be increased by increasing
the size of crank.

Motion of sley
The sley gets motion from the
rotation of crank via crank arm.
When the crank shaft rotates pushes
& pulls the sley with the help of the
crank arm in forward & back ward
direction.

Factors of effecting the motion of

sley
1. The radious of arc along which the
ax in the of the sward
pin/connecting pin reciprocates.
2. The relative heights of the sword pin
& crank shaft. Generally crank shaft
stays below the sword pin or they
stay at some height. It depend on
the fabric to be woven.
3. The length of the crank in relation
that of the arm.

Sley eccentricity ratio

The sley has two function to perform
when its forward position
