PS Data Capacity Dimensioning

CDED and CDEF must be calculated properly.
Wrong CDED/CDEF definition will cause :
1. Too small : Poor (E)GPRS throughput performance, PDCH rejection
2. Too big : Lack of time slot for CS service
Two (2) methods was proposed to calculate the CDED timeslot :
1. Initial Deployment : QoS throughput per User
2. Optimization based : CDED was calculated to accomodate the current
PS traffic.

Note: Target Qos throughput per user was defined by Customer

CDED DIMENSIONING
Initial Deployment based on QoS per User
In this method, the required BW per cell is calculated based on the target
throughput per user.

Network Profile

1.Subs profile ( mErl per Subs, PS

Subs ratio and contention ratio) is a
network profile defined by Traffic
engineering team.
2.Target throughput per user is
defined by RNP or RAE

PS subs ratio and contention ratio came from core network profile. In case
we only have profile mErl per Subs and kbps per Subs, the following
method can be used to calculate PS subs ratio and contention ratio.

Note :
Measurement Method : BH CS Traffic for calculation.
Simutaneous user per BSC trf_232

CDED DIMENSIONING
Optimization based on Current PS Traffic

SAMPLE only

The total number of CDED per cell can be calculated by dividing the requirement (throughput or payload) with the bit rate or
capacity per timeslot
e.g PS Payload at BH CS = 80 MB CDED = 80/17.23 ~ 5 TSL/Cell
Note :
Measurement method : PS payload at BH CS

CDEF & GTRX DIMENSIONING

Initial Deployment

For initial deployment, it is proposed to use ratio between Avg _PS_TSL_usage

and CDED from best practice experience as multiple factor for CDEF calculation
CDEF = k * CDED
where :
- k is network model of Avg_ PS_TSL_usage /CDED from live statistics
- Avg_PS_TSL_usage = trf_239

During the implementation (E)GPRS, it is possible to measure the actual

statistics. The number of CDEF can be tuned based on its statistics.

-Excluded : CDED higher than 10 per Cell

The average of number PS TSL usage / CDED is around 1.6

CDEF = Roundup(1.6* CDED)

CDEF & GTRX DIMENSIONING

Optimization Based

CDEF was calcucated based on the actual GPRS territory (ava_44).

ava_44 shows the number of radio time slots delivered for GPRS use based on
territory upgrade.

If ava_44 > 80% of CMAX TSL, then upgrade GTRX

For the sake of saving transmission, EDAP is introduced, so that it is a share scenario.
And we use the following sharing factor:
For sharing with 1 sector : 1
For sharing with 2 sectors: 1.3
For sharing with 3 sectors: 1.5

RTSLs is the total number of RTSL in the GPRS and EGPRS

territories.
Abischs is the total number of Abis channels associated
both to the master channels and EDAP channels. RTSLs +
4 x sum size of all EDAPs in a 64k TSL.
EDAPs is the total number of EDAPs.
BTSobjs is the total number of BTS under segment with GENA
= Y + other BTS with GENA = Y associated to a given logical
PCU.
SEGs is the total number of segments with GENA = Y.
TRXs is the total number of TRXs with GTRX = Y
BHGbThroughput is the total BHGb capacity required for the
PS traffic for a given logical PCU as a number of 64k TSLs.
U is the chosen degree of the statically allocated PCU Abis
resources. An avg of 70% is used for dimensioning
calculations. Respectively, 100% - U is left for territory
upgrades.
