EARTH SCIENCE CURRICULUM

FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2013-2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE
COURSE
General course specially designed for
students of education in Sciences.
Introducing the basic and fundamental
beginning of the Terrestrial Sciences and
of the Space emphatically in the physical
evolution of the land and the universe
integrating(repaying) the ethical aspects of
the sciences.

TERMINAL OBJECTIVES
EARTH SCIENCES COURSE
On having finished the course(year), the student will be capable of...
A. Affective level
1. They will demonstrate a dynamic aptitude before the theoretical and
experimental science and will demonstrate it valuing the scientific
development from a more humanitarian perspective.
2. They will recognize the importance of the terrestrial sciences
(astronomy, geology and meteorology) and his(her, your) theories, and they
will demonstrate it analyzing the global contribution (the benefits and the
problems) of these to the scientific and technological world, and to the
progress of the daily life.
3. To demonstrate the acquisition of a critical and analytical thought.
4. To present the own(proper) characteristics of a good scientist:
integrity, honesty, punctuality, organization, efficiency, accuracy and
respect to the ideas of other persons.
5. It(He,She) influences the own(proper) companionship and the
cooperation of the teamwork
6. Demonstrate interest for the investigation(research), for the reading
and for the studies in general, which are necessary for the development of
the scientist..

7. They will demonstrate the own(proper) aptitudes of the scientist and will
demonstrate it showing interest in the problems of the sciences and using
the knowledge acquired of the study of the terrestrial sciences to prevent a
major deterioration of our environment.
To preserve the natural existing resources.
To relieve the energetic current and future crisis.
To help to correct the realized hurt(damage) and to avoid a major
hurt(damage).
8. They will demonstrate ethical and moral values executing the own(proper)
characteristics of a good student: honesty, integrity, punctuality,
organization, efficiency and respect to the ideas of other persons both in the
school environment and in the community.
B. Cognitive level
1. To acquaint the students with the basic theories of the EARTH sciences.
2. To stimulate the analytical thought to relate some basic aspects of
chemistry to the daily life of the students.
3. To qualify the students in order that they could estimate the scientific
world and his(her, your) importance in our life.

4. To develop the critical reasoning applied to the terrestrial sciences.

5. To develop strategies in the student for the resolution of problems.
6. To qualify the students in order that they could relate the theory to the
practice across some experiments select.

7. They will analyze the physical properties and the movements of the
system Earth - Moon, using models and maps to scale

8. They will identify the minerals, being based on his(her, your) physical

and chemical properties

9. They will classify the igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks

of agreement with the origin and composition
10. There will analyze the composition and the structure of the
atmosphere and the factors that they control the time and the climate in a
region
11. There will describe the hydrological cycle and the structure and
composition of the oceans
12. There will analyze the impact of the use of the renewable and not
renewable resources for the human being
13. There will identify the conditions that they contribute(pay) to the
problem of the pollution in Puerto Rico
14. There will practice effective forms that help to reduce the effects of
the pollutants on the human health.

B. Psychomotor level
1. To work skillfully with the equipment and the
instrumentation of a laboratory.
2. To realize skillfully the skills of analysis of measures of
length, volume and of mass.
3. To realize measured to the accuracy and precision needed in
a laboratory.
4. The computer will use correctly as tools of learning and will
demonstrate it investigating on different topics across the Internet
5. There will accede the information necessary and requested
of an effective and efficient way across the use of the resources that
provides the school Library and will demonstrate it in the special
works and assigned tasks that realizes.

Later you will find the topics that have to be covered in

this course for school month. This can change.
The course of SCIENCE 9th is one in which there are
covered different topics of the Earth Sciences. It is
begun by the use and managing of the Cartesian
coordinates, and we continue with the construction of
graphs and scientific method. Then there are studied
different topics of the terrestrial sciences. On having
concluded the school year the pupil will be capable of
dominating 80 % of the skills of the program of
sciences as(according to) established in the
expectations of the degree and standards of content of
the program of sciences of 2008.
