FRUSTRATION

Frustration is an emotion that occurs in situations

where a person is blocked from reaching a desired
outcome. In general, whenever we reach one of
our goals, we feel pleased and whenever we are
prevented from reaching our goals, we may
succumb to frustration and feel irritable, annoyed
and angry.
Typically, the more important the goal, the greater
the frustration and resultant anger or loss of
confidence.

EXAMPLE:
IN THIS PICTURE MARIO HAS BATTLED MANY CREATURES,
AND PUT HIMSELF IN SOME VERY DANGEROUS
CIRCUMSTANCES TO TRY AND RESCUE THE PRINCESS.

Frustration can help an individual to

understand what a potential problem
might be. Thus, a person could use that
frustration as a source of motivation to
achieve a goal. In some cases,
frustration can have a negative
implication when it is not dealt with
properly and can lead to anger and
destruction.

What causes
Frustration?

Frustration is a reaction based on emotions that

we have when we have worked hard to achieve a
goal but the outcome does not meet our
expectations. Therefore, we experience frustration
when the results in a situation do not satisfy what
we envisioned.
There are two sources of frustration. The first is a result of
internal sources that cause an individual disappointment
and the other is a result of an external source or sources.

INTERNAL FRUSTRATION
Based on own actions or
personal short comings
Own fears, actions or
short comings get in the
way of goal
Person can find ways to
overcome. Need to find
ways to work around or
eliminate these barriers.

EXTERNAL FRUSTRATION
Based on conditions
outside a persons
control
Other people or
things get in the
way of goal
Person can not
control. Need to find
strategies to cope
with these barriers.
