Introduction
Training Manual
Post-processing tasks allow users

to view the simulation results after
numerical iterations have been
done.
Post-processing tasks are
performed by using the Fluent
Solution.x entry located below the
Fluent case set in the specification
tree.
FFC post-processing tools allow
users to obtain vector and contour
plots of the domain or on any
cutting planes.
You can also launch Flowizard from
within FLUENT for CATIA for
advanced post-processing.
Refer to the Users Guide for details

Post-processing Toolbars (2)
Training Manual
The FLUENT for CATIA Workbench

has the following toolbars for common
images for Post-processing:
Contour and vector plots for flow
variables
Pathline plots for flow variables.
Contour and vector plots for species
calculations.
Pathline plots for species calculations.
When a plot is created, an item is

added to the Fluent Solution tree; and
previous items are deactivated.
In addition, the CATIA workbench has
a standard toolbar which can be used
here to create standard images,
cutting planes, explode views,
generate reports etc.

Image Generation Panel
Training Manual
If the EST license is available,

then the Generate Image icon
can also be used for postprocessing.
Right click Fluent Solution.x in
the specification tree and
select Generate Image.
In the Image Generation panel,
a set of standard images are
available.
Select the appropriate image
and click OK to create the postprocessing object and plot.

Creating Contour and Vector Plots
Training Manual
To create contour and vector plots for a

particular variable, click on the
corresponding button in the postprocessing toolbar or select in Image
Generation.
A default plot is created automatically
and a post-processing item is added to
the Fluent case.
Default plot is set in the Tool Options
Fluent tab Customize options.
Set the default to Fringe instead of
Average iso.
By default, the results are displayed on

all the boundary groups.
Double click on the item to open the
Image Edition panel:
In the Visu tab, choose the type of plot:

Fringe and Average iso yield contours,
Symbol yields vector plots.
Pathlines and text can also be selected.
In the Selections tab, select the boundary
group for plotting.

Cutting Planes using CATIAs cut plane
Training Manual
A cutting plane can also be

used to visualize the results.
Visualization on a Cutting
Plane:
Click on the cut plane icon
to open the Cut Plane Analysis
dialog box
The location/orientation of the
cutting plane is adjusted by
using the compass.
Place the cursor on the
compass
Move/rotate the highlighted
coordinate axis of the
compass.
For translation, slide along the
straight axes

Species Post-Processing
Training Manual
Species post-processing can be done

using the post-processing toolbars
Alternately, the image generation icon
for the solution by right click on the
corresponding species solution.
Contour, vector and pathline plots can
be created, just as with other flow
variables.
A post-processing object is added to the
corresponding Fluent solution.

Creating Pathline Plots
Training Manual
Similarly, to create pathlines for a

particular variable, click on the
corresponding button in the postprocessing toolbar or select in
Image Generation.
Alternately, contour/vector plots
can be edited to create pathline
plots.
To visualize the pathlines:
Hide the Nodes and Elements in the

Finite Element Model Tree.
Enable Shading with Materials.
Turn on Pathline visualization mode
in the contours toolbar.
By default, pathlines are released

from all inlets and exit through all
the outlets.
The Image Edition panel can be
used to select individual inlets and
outlets, as well as pathline
attributes.

Editing Colormaps
Training Manual
Color maps and images can be

edited to make them richer and
more informative.
Double click on the colormap
to bring up the Color Map
Edition panel.
Now you can change the
number of colors as well as
maximum and minimum
values.
Click on More to expand the
panel; and modify the
distribution mode and the
numerical display format.

Displaying Multiple Images
Training Manual
After a first post-processing

image is displayed, you can
keep adding multiple images to
the existing ones for effects or
comparisons:
Click on the Image Layout
icon
Determine the direction and
distance for the next image
to be shown
Adjust the position of the
pictures and the colormaps
using the mouse.
Left click on the views or
the color bar of the map to
select.
Drag with middle mouse to
adjust the locations.

Image Transformation for Periodicity and Symmetry
Training Manual
For periodic and symmetry

geometry, Image
Transformation can be used to
recreate complete geometry
and flow field by mirroring and
copying.
Create the post-processing
plot to be transformed.
Select the Transformation
Type.
Input the vector for translation
or angle for rotation.
If needed select Reverse for
going in the negative direction
to the vector.
Select the plane of symmetry
for mirroring the image.

To export data to a
file:
Right click on the postprocessing items
Select Export Data from
the contextual menu.
Set the output directory
and file name
Choose the file type:
data can be a plain
ASCII text file or in
spread sheet (xls)

Report Generation
Training Manual
Users can generate HTML reports by

clicking on the Report icon located in
the bottom of the graphics. window.
Set the output directory and choose a
Title.
Set option to Add Created Images
Choose the analysis case for report
generation.
Click OK to generate the HTML report.
The HTML report contains:

Model summary: boundary conditions,
initial values, solution settings
Computational results: pressure drop,
maximum, minimum and average of all
variables.
Images generated during postprocessing.
An advanced report can be generated

by including items from the FLUENT
case and solution.

The Flowizard/CFD-Post package allows users to easily show flow

pathlines, iso-surfaces, multiple plane cuts, the point probe tool, and
image capture from Flowizard/CFd-Post.
Click on
to launch Flowizard/CFD-Post, the case will be
automatically imported to Flowizard/CFD-Post. Additional icons
include:
send results to Flowizard/CFD-Post for postprocessing
display selected profiles on boundaries
display iso-surfaces by Flowizard
display plane-cuts images by Flowizard
display pathlines vizualization by Flowizard
point probe of any specified variables by Flowizard

Automatic Image Update for External Post-processer

In the Advanced Options menu,

there is an option to automatically
update image in Flowizard/CFDPost on selection.
With this option the post-processing
images in Flowizard/CFD-Post
session will be updated
automatically with selection of any
panel variable (like plotting surfaces
variables etc.)

Summary
Training Manual
FLUENT for CATIA V5 brings CFD analysis capabilities (fluid flow and
heat transfer) into the CATIA V5 product life-cycle management (PLM)
environment. FFC allows the CFD analysis to be done within the
CATIA user interface
The automation of FFC is also complemented by the ability to
access/modify the parameters and controls of the FLUENT solver
