This is the operating system on your
computer. Your computer cannot run
without this software
It is also required in order to run any
application software such as MS Office
The OS will also determines which types of
applications you will be able to use on
your computer based on compatibility

All files that you create or those that may
already be on your computer have an
extension that identifies the type of file
created
The most common types of files are: MS
Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Access

files have a three letter extension


which can help identify the type of file
.doc is a Word file (.docx for Office
2007/2010)
.xls (Office 97/2003) or .xlsx (Office
2007/2010) is an Excel file
.mdb is an Access file
.ppt or .pptx (Office 2007/2010) is a
PowerPoint file

What is a PDF file ?


PDF stands for Portable Document
Format
It is a replica of a file that is viewable by
those who otherwise do not have the
ability to open the file
This does not require any application to
open; only a viewer (Adobe Acrobat
Reader) which is downloadable at no cost

as letter to mom. The file has an
extension of .doc

Before you can begin using email you
must have a provider so that you can
access the internet (Web)
An internet provider is someone like

The same goes for accessing the web
