WHAT DOES A BLOOD SPATTER


ANALYST DO?
A Blood Spatter Analyst examines the location and shape of blood drops, stains,
puddles and pools.
Their job consist of interacting with bio hazardous material, taking photographs
and collecting samples. Also writing reports and testifying in court.
Blood Spatter Analyst use their expertise to determine:

Type of weapon that was used


Direction of travel of a victim or suspect
Number of wounds the victim may have received
How the violent events of the crime unfolded

WHAT EDUCATION IS NEEDED


FOR THIS JOB?
Blood spatter analyst must have a Bachelors Degree usually in criminal
justice particularly in Forensics Science. If one does not have a Bachelors
Degree they must have an Associates Degree in addition of two years of
job related experience. If the person only has a high school diploma instead
of two years of job related experience they must have four years. Job
related experience positions such as criminalist, crime scene investigator,
or homicide investigator.
Some classes they take are biology, anatomy, criminology, constitutional
law and statistical analysis.

FOR THIS JOB?

body fluids. They work along side of criminal investigators and other
criminal analysts. They work in state-run crime laboratories and for large
police departments.

HOW MUCH DO THEY GET PAID?


Blood spatter analyst earnings can range from $30,000 to $83,000 a year.
On their first-year salaries are just under $30,000 annually. The mean
salary for all forensic science technicians is around $55,000.

SPATTER ANALYST USE?
Some of the tools blood spatter analyst use to collect evidence are high
quality cameras, sketching materials, cutting instruments and evidence
packaging. The cameras are used to take pictures of the evidence when it
cant be collected by cutting the material its on.

FEW PEOPLE IN THIS FIELD?
The number of people in the Blood Spatter Analyst field is increasing.
Growth in the number of blood analyst is expected in 2020. Due to
television shows the position of blood spatter analyst becomes more
popular.

EVIDENCE THEMSELVES OR DO THEY JUST
COLLECT THE BLOOD?
They investigate and study the patterns at the crime scene and at times
also profile the blood in the laboratory. Analysts are required to undergo
formal training in blood pattern analysis, accompanied by competency
testing and periodic continuing education which helps to analyze the data
themselves.

WHAT ARE SOME PROS AND


CONS ABOUT THIS JOB?
Blood spatter analyst is a cool job but there are some pros and cons that
come with it. Some pros about being a blood spatter analyst would be
possibly high salary, they help solve a crime, and its an interesting and
complex job. Some cons would be continuous study, lots of blood, and
even though you have the opportunities of a high salary you can also get
paid a low salary.
