PHRASES

PHRASE
A group of related words that is used as single part of speech and that
does not contain both verb and its subject.
Examples:
The bewildered tourist
The senile old man
The lost puppy
The flu clinic

PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES
Includes a preposition, the object of the preposition, and any modifies of
that object
Examples:
The book with the tattered cover has been read many times.
All the passengers aboard the runaway train were frightened.
The present inside the big box is mine.
Our boss put out a memo regarding the new rule.
The clues within the first few chapters will lead to the murderer.

ADJECTIVE PHRASES
It is a prepositional phrase that modifies a noun or pronoun. In other
words, an adjective phrase is a prepositional phrase.
Examples:
The movie was not too terribly long.
A person smarter than me needs to figure this out.
The final exams were unbelievably difficult.
This pie is very delicious and extremely expensive.
Mom said the cost of a car is way too high.

It is a prepositional phrase that is used to modify a verb, an adjective, or an
adverb.
Examples:
Bob nodded as if he understood.
Meet me at the mall.
Without thinking, he turned down the road.
They must kiss before sunset.
In the forestmany creatures snarl and growl.
