Installation in Domestic Buildings


The wiring installation should be in accordance with the
Indian Electricity Rules 1956
Procedure

Identify the loads consulting with the consumer


Calculate the total connected load and type of supply
Deciding the number of sub circuits
Prepare the installation plan
Deciding the main switch, distribution board, ELCB, MCBs
Deciding the size of wires and conduits
Prepare the schematic diagram
Prepare the estimate
(Including quantity of materials, cost of material, transportation
charge and labour charge)

Type of Wiring
PVC insulated wires in steal/PVC conduits
PVC insulated wires in concealed conduits
Major rules
Only rigid conduits to be used
Conductors of different supply systems shall not be bundled in
the same conduit
Conduits shall be supported by saddles with a maximum spacing
of 60 cm
Suitable inspection boxes shall be provided (min size 75x75 mm)
Flush type outlets shall be made of mild steal or aluminium boxes
with provision for earthing and a cover plate of insulating
material.

Domestic Wiring Problem


Figure shows the plan of a domestic building
which is to be provided with electric connection.
Provide sufficient number of light and fan
points, 5A and 15A socket outlets and airconditioner in bed room. Suggest type of supply,
number of sub circuits and specifications of DB,
ELCB, MCB etc. Also draw the installation plan
and schematic diagram.
