healthy, desirable behavior exists.
Mental health is a sense of well being, an individual
experiences. it determine individuals way of living,
working &leisure activities. it produces happiness,
stability & security.
It is the ability of the individual to make personal &
social adjustment.

DEFINITIONS
People who can carry out their roles in society &
whose behavior is appropriate & adaptive are viewed
as healthy. Mental health is a dynamic or ever
changing state.
The adjustment of human beings to the world & to
each others with a maximum of effectiveness and
happiness.

Mental health is an important aspect of one,s total health
status, it is a basic factor that maintains physical health as
well as social effectiveness. It is a positive but relative
quality of life, in which the healthy individual meets the
demands of the total life on the basis of his own capacities
& limitations.

Self knowledge:- know thyseif socreates, emphasized the
maxim a man ought to know his real nature which is
according to a idealistic philosophy as well as oriented
divine tradition.
Harmonious social relationship:- self control charity
tolerance friendship & cooperation are required to enhance
harmonious social relationship which promotes social
adjustment.

HEALTHY INDIVIDUAL
Mental health is a psychosomatic unit where the body and
mind work together in the same direction.
Evaluate his own behavior objectively
Has a sense of personal worth, self respect ,sense of security
among the group.
Ability to make social & personal adjustment.
Accepts & respects the decision & actions of other.
Ability to work under authority, rule ,regulation & overcome
difficulties.
Ability to form hobbies to enjoy leisure time .
Satisfies with sexual identity.

Show maturity ,growth & development ,self direction ,self


relation ,self control .
Achieves a sense of competition ,collaboration ,satisfaction
and security.
Maintains daily routine of good health practices related to
nutrition, rest, sleep, relaxation, physical activity and
hygiene.
Tolerates frustration and disappointments in daily life.
Enjoys positive philosophy of life.
Using coping mechanism to meet the life stresses.

Motives cause conflicts and in turn conflict causes anxiety,


stress & frustration in the individual.in our life,we want
many things & have different goals.but we cant achive
everythings we aspire form.
Instead we restore to certain mechanisms by which we can
safeguard our self respect.
the mechanism used for maintaining harmony with
environment can be grouped into two categories;
a) Direct method b)indirect method.

EGO DEFENCE MECHANISM

Ego defence mechanisms are methods of attempting to


protect self and cope with basic drives or emotionally
painful thought, feelings or events. Ego defence
mechanisms thought originally conceveived by Sigmund
Freud .
PURPOSES.
To reduce or eliminate anxiety. they may be used to
resolve a mental conflict, to reduce anxiety or fear, to
protect ones self esteem or to protect ones sense of
security.
