STUDY ON GROUND

VIBRATION
MONITORING SCHEME
IN MALAYSIA
Present by: Lee Kwan Hau
Supervisor: Dr. Norhisham
Bakhary

Introduction
Ground Vibration - continual problem
for industry, structural health and
public
Causing structure damage and
discomfort, losing money and time
Assessment only when complaint or
noticeable building crack
Two case studies in vibration
assessment

The objectives of the

research
To find out the suitable vibration
monitoring standard.
To investigate the suitable
parameters for vibration monitoring.
To determine the suitable vibration
limit for structure and human
comfort.

Vibration Parameter
VDV (vibration dose value)
a cumulative measurement of the
vibration level received over an 8-hour
or 16-hour period.

PPV (Peak Particle Velocity)

The maximum value of particle velocity
obtained during an interval.

Conclusion
The suitable parameter for vibration
monitoring for piling activity is peak
particle velocity (PPV).
For both of the piling site, the vibration
induced by piling activities are not high
enough to cause structural damage, but it
is causing annoyance to the human
activity.
Beside distance, there are others factors
affecting the level of vibration.
