Tile Setting

Tile Setting is considered by


many as a form of art.
The Flooring has been practiced
since the time of ancient Greece
and Rome.
Tiles that are often used as cover
walls and floor coverings are
available in different sizes, from
square tiles to complex mosaics.

Classification of Tools and Materials


per Job Requirement

Notched Trowels
The choice of notche towels depends on
the size of tiles.
These are used to spread and "comb"
adhesives onto the underlayment.

Notched Margin Trowel

It is necessary when applying tiles.


It is used to make sure that the proper
depth of setting material to the surface is
applied.

Square Notched Towel

Used for installing tiles on floors;


This is used for installing 16"square of less
tiles.

V-Notched Trowel

Used for installing tiles on walls.


This trowel lays down less mortar, perfect
for wall applications.

Grout Float

Cutting Tools
The tile must be cut to fit againts walls,
tubs, toilets, electrical outlets, and other
spaces that needs to be tiled, and also to
be cut in holes in a tile to fit plumbing
fixtures.

Wet Tile Saw

A wet tile saw utilizes a special carbide


blade.
It usually has diamond dusted on the edge
of it.

Tile Scorer

This kind of hand tool with hardened

Diamond Hole Saw Cutter

Used to cut holes on plumbing fixtures.

Snap Cutter

A simple handheld glass cutter capable of


scoring smooth surface glazes, allowing
the tile to be snapped.

Group 1 is suitable for walls, bathroom
wals and floors
Group 2 tiles are generally used in house
areas like the living room and bedroom.
Group 3 tiles are for countertops, walls,
and floors
Group 4 and Group 5 are extra-durable
tiles made for commercial buildings.

Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain tiles are remarkably durable tiles


as they forged in flames.
These tiles are good in enterways.

Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are made from a mixture of


natural clays heated in kilns at high
temperatures, producing hard bisque.

Roof Tiles

Roof tile is one of the most durable, longlasting roofing materials available.

Outdoor Tiles

Outdoor tiles are used in walkways,


stepping stones, patios , walls mantels,
and sides of a swimming pool.

Granite

Granite tiles are best to use for bathroom


or kitchen.

Pencil Tiles

Pencil tiles are used as finishing piece


when ending the tile on backsplashes or
bathroom walls.

Glass Tile

Glass tiles or mortar is translucent or


transparent.

Tile Trim

Tile Trim provides walls, floors, and


countertops with finished edges and
conceals rough or poorly glazed tiles.

V-cap Tiles

V-cap Tiles, or V-Tiles, are used to finish


the front edge of the tile countertops and
vanity tops.
V-cap tiles are installed after the other tile
counters have been placed.

Mastic oe Adhesive

Mastic or Adhesive is a material used as a


sealant for plumbing or as a seal when
waterproofing a foundation wall.
This also used to fasten ceramic tile in
nonwet areas.

Grout

Grout is a soft and pliable construction


material that fills the gaps between tiles
after they are set on the surfaces.

Other Tools Used in Tile


Setting

Tile Stripper

Tile Stripper come in various types.


Each type has a different purpose, but
mostly are used for crapping off
undesirable coatings such as rust, scale
and adhesive.

Bucket

Contains water and aid in tiling and cleaning


of grout.

Chalkline

Used for making lines between two points and


intersecting lines to facilitate tile layout.

Tape Measure

Used for taking the liner

Tile Sponge

Tile sponge are made specifically for


cleaning grout.

Float Knife

This is used for grouting, together with the


tile sponge ang bucket.
