Competency- Based Training

1. It is a training delivery approach that focuses on

the competency development of learner as
a result of training;
2. Emphasizes most on what the trainee can
actually do;
3. Focuses on outcomes rather than the learning
process with in specified time;
4. It is concern with the attainment and application
of knowledge , skills and attitude to a
specific level of competency.
In CBT, the education and training system
should begin and end with customer needs.

Role of a Trainer
1. Serves as team leader to determine what is to be
learned;
2. Stimulates trainees motivation;
3. Manage learning: a consultation rather than a provider
of information, a facilitator of the learning;
4. Diagnose and solves learning problems;
5. Evaluates trainees achievement;
6. Assist trainees to obtain individualized rewards;
7. Spend more time interacting with trainees on 1:1 or
small group basis;
8. Helps trainees who really need help.

Role of a Trainee
1. Trainees learn at their own rate within program
guidelines. They may speed up , slow down, stop
or
even repeat the task.
2. Trainees are responsible for what they learn and
when they learn it.
3. Trainees decide when they are ready to perform the
task or demonstrate mastery of learning to a joblike level of proficiency before receiving credit for
the task.
4. Trainees evaluate their own progress to see how well
they are doing.

5. Trainees move freely on the workshop, laboratory

or training center.
6. Trainees know they will be rated mainly on
performance, while paper and pencil tests will be
used mainly to check their knowledge of the
task.
7. Trainees learn according to their interest, needs
and abilities and not according to teachers
timeline.
