Tendering opportunities
Organizations that successfully complete the Five Star Audit are able to document this as a health and safety
achievement in their tender documentation.
Performance improvement
By combining continuous improvement with a strong safety plan and a total safety awareness approach,
organizations will find it easier to keep unexplained absences and re-employment costs resulting from
accidents to a minimum.
Safety Culture
The Five Star Audit helps organizations progress towards a more integrated approach to health and safety.
Involving both managers and employees in the drive towards improving the safety of the working environment
will support employee morale, well-being and the overall safety culture of the organization.
Recognition
Undertaking the Five Star Audit will benchmark your organization against the best! Organizations that achieve
the highest rating of five stars are eligible to apply for a prestigious British Safety Council Sword of Honour
only awarded to a maximum of 40 of the safest companies in the world every year. The Sword of Honour is
recognized by many throughout all industries, as the pinnacle of achievement in health and safety
Quantifiable measurement
The Five Star Audit, unlike most standard safety audits available, uses a unique scoring system that allows
organizations to gain credits towards a total mark for each element (not simply a pass or fail).
The benefit of the scored audit system is that it provides a quantifiable measure for each element. This helps to
provide a clear development path, outlining the exact level of improvement required to reach the next step.
Detailed evaluation
The Five Star Audit is a totally independent evaluation of an organizations safety management system (SMS). It
is a detailed review of the entire SMS and associated arrangements. It examines five major elements and up to
57 sub sections of the system making it one of the most comprehensive and specific assessments available.
