NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF FASHION

TECHNOLOGY (NIFT)

Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of

proportionssaid Coco Chanel, and rightly so.

National Institute of Fashion Technology was set

up in 1986 at New Delhi by the Ministry of
Textiles, Government of India as a registered
society under the Societies Registration Act,
1860.

Since its inception in 1986, the institute has

played a pioneering role in envisioning and
evolving Fashion business education in the
country. With growing demand for skilled
manpower from the Fashion business industry
across the country, the Institute expanded its
operations in 1995-96 by establishing six
additional Centers at Bangalore, Chennai,
Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai.
During 2007 to 2010, eight more centers were
established in Rae Bareli, Shillong, Bhopal,

Professional Academic Programmes are offered as full-time

undergraduate and graduate programmes in various areas of design,
technology and management of 4 and 2 years duration respectively.

These programmes are offered through 10 courses leading to the

conferment of professional qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor and
Masters Degree.

Technology (NIFT) currentlyfunctioningin the country

The Board of Governors (BOG) of NIFT has sanctioned proposal for the establishment
of NIFT Centre in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir.

AIM:

The aim is to develop a world class institute of fashion technology at Panchkula.

I will try to achieve the best possible design with the use of new technologies related to
the project, which would enhance the beauty of the design. The design should raise the
importance of the area at a higher level more than it has today.
I will try to make whole project environment friendly as much as possible according to
site, climatology and other factors .

OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT:

Build links between the environment and built spaces.

To put a Panchkula as a fashion hub at national level
The institution would act as a functional Centre of creativeness, education and promotion
era for fashion goods.

SCOPE OF PROJECT:

This project will help in providing fashion education which is the most demanding factor of
present day at national and international level
The institution will provide educational facilities to the students thus understanding the
works being performed in the fashion and textile industry.
Works done will be promoted through exhibition halls and museum, helping the institute
to gain a new identity than other fashion institute .
This project will be the combination of art, architecture and design and thus creating a
landmark for the city like Panchkula.

LIMITATION:

The project will limit to the Administrative block, Academic block and open spaces.
Incubation Centre, Housing block, Hostel block, Guest house will be marked on site plan .

METHODOLOGY

1. CASE STUDIES
Case studies to be done so as to be clear about the functionality of
the project & come out from the merits & demerits aspect of the NIFT, Gandhinagar
project

2. LITERATURE STUDY
The study is either from the books or from the internet to clear
more concepts and can do research on the topic and extract
inferences from these literature studies

3. SITE STUDY
To analyses the site with respect to location, climatology,
physiography, surroundings, historical background of that region
.On the basis of which design has to be done.

4. REQUIREMENTS FRAMING AND AREA ANALYSIS

After case studies and literature study, requirements are framed out
and area chart has to be finalize, though it alter after final design
but in initial stage it play the key role.

5. CONCEPT
Area analysis help in zoning layout of the function which further
help in deriving concept plan .before reaching the final stage
concept has to be approved.

6. DRAFT DESIGN
The stage proceeding to the final design, developing of all floor
plans, section, elevation and views. The drawings must be
completed for the pre final jury.

7. FINAL DESIGN
Concept is the crude form of final design .The end product or the
final design must retain the basic concept of the design, all plans,
section, elevation and views must be completed

On 19th July 2012, Shri Anand Sharma, Hon. Minister of Textiles, Government of India in a public
function, attended by the Chief Minister of Haryana, announced his decision to establish a NIFT
campus at Panchkula. The Board of Governors NIFT, in its meeting held on 23rd July 2012
approved in principle, establishment of a NIFT Campus at Panchkula. The Department of
Technical Education, Government of Haryana is a nodal department for the implementation of
the project.

LOCATION AND GEOGRAPHY

Panchkula is newly formed 17th district of Haryana State.

Panchkula is located in the north of Haryana state.
It is surrounded by Patiala district of Punjab and Chandigarh in the West; Solan and
Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh in the North and South as well. as East by
Ambala.
Panchkula district enjoys the privilege of having the beautiful hill track of Haryana, the
only beautiful hill resort at Morni Hills.
District occupies a prominent place in the industrial; map of Haryana.
It is a satellite city of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
The prestigious Chandimandir Cantonment Headquarters of the Indian Western
Command is also located in Panchkula city.

Courses to be offered at NIFT, Panchkula

(i) School of Design :

This school will offer Core courses in Design based subjects besides offering majors in
fashion design and textile design. It will also offer minors in these courses at
undergraduate level. At post graduate level it would offer a course in Design Space or
develop newer courses, as the case may be.

(ii) School of Fashion Technology and Management :

This school will offer courses in fashion technology, organisational behaviour to

undergraduates and postgraduates and also a post graduate programme in fashion
management.

(iii) Centre for Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences :

This interdisciplinary Centre will offer courses in Communication, Economics, English,

Foreign Languages, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences. This Centre will primarily
orient students with the questions concerning society at large in global world and
acquainting them with the implications of such questions for our immediate social setup.

Based on a norm of faculty to student ratio of 1:15 and further proportion of 1 : 2 : 4 at

the levels of Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors respectively for
