Lesson: Retelling History

using Vocaroo
Objective

Students will learn about widely believed inaccuracies within the stores of american
historical figures. Students will gain a better understanding of the accomplishments
of famous historical figures. They will explore the reasons why some individuals
seem relatively forgotten, despite achievements greater than those of their more
famous counterparts.

Students will also learn how to create an online survey using google forms for the
purpose of gathering research.

Students will learn how to take what theyve learned and compile it into a story/script
that they will use to act out as a group (using Vocaroo to record their voices) as if
they were radio hosts breaking the big news.

Rationale

Google Forms

Using google forms when placed in the SAMR model for this project would be considers a
modification. Using it in place of your typical paper and pencil or printed out survey allows
for significant redesign. It cuts the time it would normally take to make and gather details
from a survey, not to mention it allows you to reach a bigger audience and teaches them a
new online tool.

Vocaroo

Vocaroo is just a simple online recording application, for this project I would consider it a
modification because it allows for significant redesign. The original lesson plan calls for
students to write a story, Vocaroo allows you to alter the plan from a written news story to a
recorded story. The significance in this is that I can change the lesson plan to be more
engaging, more collaborative, more creative and more in with the times.

Based on their research, and survey results have the students outline the news story they will talk
about/report. They can use the research they did and evidence they uncovered to back up their
story/idea.

Students should identify the 5 Ws (who, what, when, where, and why) when putting together their
outline.
Give brief instruction on how to cite research sources and quoting individuals.

required.
