What happens when you transplant a stem
cutting? Why would we want this to happen?
What is stem cutting?
A piece of a plant cut off to be transplanted

AKA asexual propagation

Materials Needed
Pot

Plants (to be cut)

Scissors

Vermiculite/soil mix

A plastic cover (optional)


WHat is Vermiculite and why do we
use it? is a mineral that promotes and stimulates root growth
Vermiculite

We use it because it provides nutrients and aeration that regular


potting soil will not

Mixed with potting soil and perlite


Steps for cutting and Planting
Fill pot with soil mix
it should be almost full to the top and the mix should be moist

Select a branch 3-6 inches long

Cut at a 45 angle
You want your scissors to be sharp and you want your cut to be quick

Cut off lower leaves to have room to put stem in soil mix

Plant immediately into soil mix

Preferable to cover pot with a plastic lining to keep humid and moist
environment
