7.1Collect and organize data, and apply critical thinking to interpret
information from clients and constituencies.

Data is collected by patients at Adult Protective Services through intakes,

investigations, and evaluations

This information allows us to determine during home visits and hospital visits
if the client is doing better after receiving services offered by DSS.

Several stakeholders are involved in the process of collecting the data

7.2 Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment, person-in-
environment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks in interventions with
clients and constituencies.

Interventions used for clients are based on their cultural beliefs as well as income.
Individuals with higher incomes are able to afford more services outside of what DSS can
provide for them through medical insurance or at a lower rate.

Depending on a clients social support, an intervention can be in place to ensure they

attend support groups so they do not feel like they are alone.

Some clients work better with one on one counseling sessions rather than support groups
based on their age and physical capabilities.

7.3 Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives based
on the critical assessment of strengths, needs, and challenges within
clients and constituencies.

Clients work with social workers to form goals during the evaluation and
assessment processes. Certain needs that are found among APS clients
include social support as well as affordable resources such as housing in
group facilities.

Challenges of some clients include being away from their family and/or not
having their family members visit them when they are in home facilities.

7.4 Select appropriate intervention strategies based on the assessment,
research knowledge, and values and preferences of clients and
constituencies.

Cognitive behavior therapy is an intervention that works well for APS clients
that are depressed

Mindfulness based therapy has also been found to help APS clients with the
transition of not being fully independent
