Most common Naalukettu:
house with central courtyard
1. Well
Located in the North East corner
of the house.
Provide water for domestic
purposes like drinking, bathing,
washing etc.
2. Padippura

the formal entry to the


compound with the house
Structure containing a door
forming part of compound wall
for the house with a tiled roof on
top
3. Poomukham

It is where you enter the house


climbing up steps in the front.
Sides are open
Slope tiled roof with pillars
supporting roof
4. Chuttu verandah

From the Poomukham you can


walk through Chuttu verandah to
either side in front of the house
through open passage called
Chuttu Verandah
5. Charupady

Wooden benches with carved


decorative resting wooden pieces
for resting
Located by the side of Chuttu
verandah and Poomukham
6. Ambal Kulam (Pond)

Small pond built with rubble on


sides where water living plant
called Thamara (lotus) or Ambal
is planted
Located at the end of Chuttu
verandah
