GUIDE

OBJECTIVE
To show the practical applications of Vertical
Take-off and gliding incorporated into a single
model
Thus, minimising the energy required in
practical applications like gliding
To observe the cost efficiency of such a model
To design the model so that the propellers
control the direction instead of the control
surfaces.
INTRODUCTION
The idea is to hybridize a simple glider by
incorporating propellers into it and thus
providing it with vertical take-off which
minimizes the physical labour of taking a glider
to a certain height for the desired lift to be
obtained and to design it in such a way that the
propellers control the direction of movement of
the model instead of control surfaces.
UAV
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known
as a drone, is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard.
UAVs are a component of an unmanned aircraft system
(UAS); which include a UAV, a ground-based controller,
and a system of communications between the two.
The flight of UAVs may operate with various degrees
of autonomy: either under remote control by a human
operator, or fully or intermittently autonomously, by
onboard computers
GLIDER
A light engineless aircraft designed
to glide after being towed aloft or
launched from a catapult.
VERTICAL TAKE-OFF
A vertical take-off and landing
(VTOL) aircraft is one that can hover,
take off, and land vertically. This
classification includes fixed-wing
aircraft as well as helicopters and
other aircraft with powered rotors.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Rafeal Coronel B Sampaio et al (Novel hybrid electric motor
glider-quadrotor MAV for in-flight/V-STOL launching, Metorology
for aerospace,2014,IEEE,ISBN: 978-1-4799-1622-1)
This paper presents the hybrid concept, design, evaluation and
operation of a MAV (Mini Aerial Vehicle) named Sharky, fully
designed and crafted by ART (Aerial Robots Team).
The aircraft is morphologically and aerodynamically shaped to
perform well defined and specific features, 1) in-flight stable
launching from a carrier, 2) gliding ability, 3) powered flight
(motor-glider), 4) transition between glider and quadrotor (and
vice versa) and 5) base level launching either as a quadrotor or a
motor glider.
Piotr Ciecinski et al (A measurement system for static
test of airplane structure ,Motorglider , IEEE,
ISBN: 978-1-4799-2069-3)
The paper describes a measurement system made for
registering data from the static tests of motor glider
AOS-71.
The experiment was an evidence part leading to
obtaining the acceptance of the aircraft flight
worthiness.
The characteristic feature of the described studies was
the necessity of running the strength tests in higher
temperature.
