birthday of this great Indian luminary who showed the world tolerance to all kinds of
people. Let us too do what we can to make our country a better place to live in.

of themselves, reveals Happiness is. Many events in the campus urge the need of being
mentally healthy in addition to physical strength. What better way to get inspired than
remembering Gandhi who is known for his mental strength and could remain focused
at the task at hand. Do not lose your joyous moments in trying to prove yourself to the
world, says Your Corner.

The festival of lights that illuminate our homes and hearts is round the corner. The light

Dr. S. P. Thyagarajan, Director & Chief Advisor (Research), was conferred with the, Italian
Chavaeliar Award of International Educational Co-operation by Government of Italy in
October, 2007.

Dr. S. P. Thyagarajan, Pro-Chancellor (Research) was nominated by WHO- European centre

for Environment & Health Bonn, as reviewer & member of the working group for the WHO
publication, WHO guidelines on indoor air quality: dampness and mould in July 2009

Prof. P.V. Ramachandran, Chairman, Nursing Education. Florence Nightingale Award by the
University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, USA:

Dr. J. S. N. Murthy, Professor & Head of the Cardiology Department was conferred with the
Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), Glasgow University on 10th November
2010.

Prof. Asha Moorthy, Consultant Cardiologist Lifetime Achievement Award in Cardiology by

the World Congress on Clinical, Preventive and Geriatric Cardiology:

Dr.Kalpana Balakrishnan, Department of Environmental Health Engineering was awarded

Wireless innovation project award by Vodafone Americas foundation, California, USA.

Prof. Melani Rajendran was awarded D Sc degree by the Open International University for
Complementary Medicine in Malaysia in April 2009.

Prof. B.W.C.Sathiyasekaran, Department of Community Medicine was nominated as the

Editor in Chief of CITI India program in 2010.

Prof. Preetham Arthur, Department of General Medicine was conferred FRCP by the Royal
College of Physicians of Glasgow in July 2009.
Dr. Padmanabhan is the President elect of Asian Academy of osseointegration.
Dr. Kalpana Balakrishnan, Department of Environmental Health Engineering has been
nominated to serve as the Regional Editor for Environmental Health Perspectives, the official
journal of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, NIH, USA.
Dr. Kalpana Balakrishnan, Department of Environmental Health Engineering served as
member, Expert Panel for Food-borne disease burden Epidemiology Reference Group (FERG)
and as Temporary Advisor, UNIDO for Global Energy Assessment Report Lead Authors
meeting in Vienna, Austria in June 2009.
Department of Telemedicine is selected to execute the Pan-African E-Network programme of
Government of India for African countries on Tele-Health and Tele-CME.
Prof. Sunil Shroff represented India at the International Forum to formulate guidelines on living
kidney donor held at Amsterdam.
The first prize of the Asian Interventional Cardiovascular Therapeutics Young Interventionist
Award was presented to Dr. G. Sengottuvelu, Associate Professor, Department of Cardiology
by Prof. Yean Leng Lim of the University of Melbourne in recognition of a challenging
angioplasty procedure performed.
Sri Ramachandra University has been recognized as a Regional Training Center of the
American Heart Association for Provider and Instructor courses in Basic Life Support,
Advanced Cardiac Life Support & Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
