MOTOR ASSEMBLY SHOP

Megger equipment basically use for verifying the electrical
insulation level of motor .
11
STEPS
Clean your work surface to make sure its free of dirt
and dust.
Remove the motor housing to reveal the armature,
stator, and the windings.
Document the present configuration by taking notes
or photographs.
Take the wire from the tabs on the brush pads.
Cut the coils in the wind free from the armature
and/or stator.
Check the insulation that lines the actual steel
laminate areas of the stator before you rewind an
electric motor.
12
Rewind the armature and/or stator using the same
gauge and type of magnet wire that was on the original
motor.
Recreate the exact winding pattern and number of coils
around each winding
Connect the end of the last winding and the loose wire
you left in the first winding to the tab where you
began.
Check to make sure that none of the wires connecting
to the tabs are touching.
Reassemble the motor housing in assembly shop.

TRANSFORMER REPAIR SHOP-
A welding transformer is a step down transformer that has thin primary winding with a
large number of turns and its secondary has more area of cross-section and less number of
turns ensuring less voltage and very high current in the secondary. The welding transformer
reduces the voltage from the source voltage to a lower voltage that is suitable for welding.
Usually between 15 and 45 volts. The secondary current is quit high and it may be typically
200A to 600A, but it could be much higher. The secondary may have several taps for
adjusting the secondary voltage to control the welding current. The taps are typically
connected to a several high-current plug receptacles or to a high-current switch. One end
of the secondary is connected to the welding electrode, whereas the other end of the
secondary is connected to the welding electrode, whereas the other end is connected to
the pieces to be welded .If any high current flows, heat is produced due to the contact
resistance between the electrode and the pieces to be welded. The generated heat melts a
trip of the electrode and the gap between the two pieces is filled. Figger shows a simple
welding transformer.

Isolators:
ISOLATORS GIVE PHYSICAL SEPARATION BETWEEN LIVE PART AND DEAD PART.
PHYSICAL SEPARATION CAN BE SEEN BY NAKED EYE FROM A DISTANCE.
28
PROTECTION & CONTROL:
Objectives of Protection:
I) TO DISCONNECT THE FAULTY CIRCUIT WITH
MINIMUM DAMAGE DUE TO FAULT.
II) TO LEAVE THE REST OF THE POWER
SYSTEM IN A HEALTHY STATE.
III) COST OF REPAIR OF DAMAGE TO BE KEPT
MINIMUM.
IV) TO RESTRICT POSSIBILITY OF SPREADING
AND INVOLVING OTHER EQUIPMENT.
V) TO REDUCE TIME THE EQUIPMENT OUT OF
SERVICE.
VI) TO MINIMIZE COST OF REVENUE LOSS.
