from 1939 to 1945. There were over 100,000,000 people from over 30 different countries involved in this war. Hitler discover concentration camps during this time which he locked Jews and people he thought to be a threat in. This resulted in over 6 million deaths in the Holocaust. An attack on Poland in 1939, which was lead by Adolf Hitler was the cause of World War 2. Why Hitler Hated the Jews
There had been religious conflict between
Catholics and Jews for years before the war in Europe. During the First World War the Jewish people were in charge of a lot of the banks and large companies so Hitler blamed the economic downfall of Germany on the Jews. Hitler thought that the Jews were worth less than other races and that the Germans were the superior race so he wanted to wipe out the Jews. About the Holocaust
The Holocaust took place between 1933-1945
Over 6 million Jew's were killed by the Nazi's during The Holocaust. The word Holocaust is Greek for "sacrifice by fire". At the beginning of The Holocaust people were forced out of their homes and banned from their society Nazi's later found other ways to punish them including gas chambers which became a very popular way to kill them. When a Jew's death was being recorded, the letters "SB" would be written beside their name this was short for Special Treatment in German. Jews in Concentration Camps Jews were brought to Concentration Camps during The Holocaust. These were very like prison camps. Jews usually wore The Star of David (a great Jewish King). Nazi's used this against them to identify them and bring them to the camps. They were told they were being relocated to a better place to live. Jews were forced to do very hard labor and many people often died from starvation and overworking themselves. Hiding
Jews often hid in groups from the Nazi's but children
were put into hiding first. More people were willing to take in a child to hide than an adult. Jews that went into hiding relied on others to help them. They gave their helpers money to pay for food, water and other services. Some Jews went into hiding with their neighbours or employers. Oskar Schindler was a German businessman and he managed to save over one thousand Jewish lives by hiding them in his factory. A Dutch lady names Corrie Ten Boom helped Jews escape the Holocaust by hiding them in her closet.
