Calculation of quantities for brick work bricks
• Take a wall of 30cm nominal thickness of = 29 – ( 0.19 x 0.09 x 0.09 x 14500 )
20m length & 5m height. = 29 – 22.315
Nominal volume = 20 x 0.3 x 5 = 30 cum = 6.685 cum.
• Normally mortar joint will be less than 1 For frog filling , for use of cut bricks, for
bonding, for uniform joints, wastages etc. 15%
cm , taking 1 cm mortar joint , the actual extra mortar may be required.
thickness of wall be 29 cm. Therefore , the volume of mortar
• Therefore actual volume = 20 x 0.29 x 5 = = 6.685 + 6.685 x 0.15
29 cum.
= 7.688 cum
Number of standards bricks of 20cm x For dry volume increase by ¼ dry volume of
10cm x 10cm x nominal size = 29 / 0.20 x mortar = 7.688 + 1.911 = 9.61 cum
0.10 x 0.10 = 14500 nos. For 30cum of brick work , dry volume of mortar
• Therefore number of bricks per cum ( =9.61 cum. Therefore for 10cum of brick work,
nominal ) = 14500 / 30 = 484 nos. dry volume of mortar = 9.61 x 10/30 = 3.2 cum
Considering 5% breakages, wastages, etc. In practice , 3.0 cum cement mortar in dry state
this may be taken 500 numbers per cum. of mortar are taken for 10cum brickwork. As an
approximate 30% dry mortar may be taken.

Quantities for 1 cu m of Brick work
• Method of calculation of quantities for Notes:
brick work 1. Number of Bricks = 500
• Volume of dry mortar = 30% of 2. Volume of one bag of cement =
volume of brick work 0.035 mᵌ
• Hence , if Y mᵌ of Brick Work in cement 3. In half brick masonry (115 mm
Mortar 1:4 – thick ), from surface area
• Volume of mortar required = 0.30 x Y consideration , 1sq m of area
• Volume of cement = 1 / (1+4) x 0.30 Y contains about 50 bricks.
• Sand = 4 / (1+4) x 0.30 Y

produced in proportion 1:4 – Brick – 7/- per brick
• Volume of dry concrete = 0.30 x 1 Cement - 400/- per bag
• Volume of cement Sand - 4000/- per cu m
= 1 / (1+4) x 0.30 x 1
Labour charges - 5357 /- per cum

= 1.71 =͂ 2 bags
• Sand = 4 / (1+4) x 0.30 x 1
= 0.24 cu m

Calculation of quantities for stone work
• Rubble required for the masonry work will be about 25% more than the quantity
of said masonry work ; i.e. for 1 cum masonry work , rubble required will be 1.25
cum .
• For 1 cum of masonry work , mortar required will be 0.30 cum.
