SWOT Analysis
STRENGTH
1. The site is near the school gate, thus it is easily accessible to
the users.
2. The site is only walking distance to the LRT 1 station and bus
terminals, so it is accessible even to those who live in the
South (Laguna and Cavite) or North (Bulacan, Q.C., Caloocan,
etc.)
3. The site is near commercial and residential structures which
can benefit its users a lot, as it will ease things for them.
WEAKNESS
1. The site can be distracting to the students because of the
noise created by the vehicles in San Marcelino St.
2. The site can be harmful to users because of the air pollution
in Manila and the smoke emitted by vehicles.
3. There are limited public transportation system present near
the site.
OPPORTUNITY
1. With the new design of the CS building, more students would
like to enroll at Adamson University, which will not only
benefit the site, but the whole university.
THREAT
1. The one way San Marcelino St. can have a negative impact on
the vehicular traffic on the site.
2. The Estero de Balete might overflow due to heavy rainfall
which may affect the structure.

DESIGN CONCEPT
OUTCAST
Outcast, or simply “outsider”, is a person
who has no place in their society or in a particular
group, because the society or group refuses to
accept them. It is someone who stands outside,
looking in, like one is just looking into a situation or
event, yet one is not a part of it.

An outcast is someone who prefers to be

silent, watching people talk, than talking. Being
labeled as an outsider doesn’t always mean that it is
a bad thing, it may also mean that you don't get to
do the things they do with them, but you get to do it
by yourself. You don't follow in the footsteps of
others, but blaze your own path.

The design concept adapt the characteristics

of an outcast to come up with a design solution that
will address all the problems that comes along with
the site’s location.
CONCEPTUAL
ANALYSIS
Being called an ‘outcast’ means someone who has been rejected by society or a social group. It means
being an isolated from something, which can result to a poor mental health wherein the voices in one’s head will
be louder than other people’s voice.

Outcasts are most likely reserved. They prefer to be silent, just observing others, which make them more
interesting as they keep things to themselves.

The re-designed CS building can be comparable to the characteristics of an outcast. Like an outcast, it
will stand out from other schools, which will make them enticing for the students to go to school. Once you’re
inside the building, you will be isolated from the outside. Using acoustical materials and solutions, the noise from
the street will be minimized, as well as the noise from adjacent classrooms. Using these, the sounds inside the
classrooms will be equally dispersed for a better learning experience for the students.

The design of the CS building, which has vertical louver or blades as sun shading device, will allow
sunlight to partially enter inside the structure, providing natural lighting in a way that is not too harsh that can
disturb the students and lower their school performance.

Security and privacy can be compared with the quality of outcasts which is being reserved or private.
Others will not easily know what’s running in an outcast’s head, like being inside the structure. It’s users will be
protected from any threats or onlookers, may it be from the outside or even inside.
