Introduction: Sunrise (Almost… there…)

The religion of Islam began in the 7th century AD. Muhammad was the
inventor, and/or prophet, of this religion. He wrote the Quran and thus
began the religion. The Kaaba, originally created for all religions of many
Bedoin tribes, was transferred to mainly Islamic use, and became a
destination for all Muslims. Trade helped spread the religion to where it is
today; one of the largest religions in the world.
Push Factors: Morning

There was a lot of violent fighting over wells and water. Gang activity as
well as robbery was widespread and not unusual. A lack of resources made
the desert surrounding Islam deserted (Get it?). Heatstroke, thirst and
sunburns could occur due to a large amount of heat and sun during the day.
Only crude, primitive and nomadic societies could be created, not allowing
advancement.Food and water was very hard to come by.
Pull Factors: Midday

Arabia was well known as a hub for trading, and could be a destination for
traders. Also, the religion of Islam focused a lot on knowledge and
intelligence. People made many advancements in the fields of medicine,
astronomy, language, writing, chemistry, math and science. Additionally, the
Kaaba is in Arabia. This made it so that all the Muslims ‘had’ to travel there
in their lifetimes, making it a travel destination. Lastly, the architecture is
amazing for mosques, so tourists might want to visit.
 Connections: Afternoon
I can connect the Islam architecture and culture to myself, because I have
been to Istanbul, Turkey. I have seen the Hagia Sophia and other similar
mosques.I can connect the practice of trading to today’s society, because
today we still trade in a figurative sense, however, we use ridiculous,
unimportant*, thin slabs of trees as a trading medium.I can also connect the
Islam religion to the world because, as we well know, the Islam religion is
extremely widespread and popular.I can connect the religion of Islam to the
media because, firstly, the Quran is about the religion of Islam. Also (no
objective or generalized slurs here), some radical Muslims, named ISIS by
our society, have been all over the news lately.
Big Ideas: Sunset

(1) Different and/or harsher environments allow for more unique

inventions and creations; “necessity is the mother of invention”. An
example is the Bedouins, who have improvised almost everything they
own, from clothing to toys to food.
(2) The spread of a culture is not simply limited to its people. The spread of
a culture can also mean the spreading of the ideas themselves. This, in
my opinion, is what defines a great culture or empire; its influence on
thinking today. The religion of Islam certainly does this.
