The mining industry is involved with extracting coal, minerals, and
precious metals from the earth. Before a mine is created, explorers
may try to determine how much of a particular item is located in the
area, which is known as prospecting. They may then determine
whether to extract material from the surface, underground, or abandon
their efforts because it may be unprofitable to continue. Developers
can then plan how to create the mine and oversee workers at the
facility when it is completed.
Prospectors often visit locations where valuable minerals are thought
to be located. They do this in order to make an assessment as to how
much of an item the area contains. People who work in this segment of
the mining industry may use special equipment to extract a sample
from the ground. In some instances, this effort is conducted by hand
using a shovel or pick.
Other members of the mining industry take information from
prospectors and analyze the data. That way, they can determine if it
would be a profitable venture to create a new mine. They can also try to
decide the best mining method, as well as estimate how much the
material might be worth once it is extracted.
Planners are also involved in creating new mines. This can involve
building the mines and developing ways to transport the material once
it is extracted. These members of the mining industry might also plan
safe ways for workers to accomplish tasks associated with mining
once the mine is operational.
A great number of people involved in the mining industry are the
miners themselves. These individuals may work underground digging
or picking at the earth in order to remove precious materials. This is
often a dangerous occupation because tunnels can cave in, causing
injury or death. In some areas, miners may belong to a union that
oversees their working conditions in order to help keep them safe for
this reason.
Other people in the mining industry transport coal or minerals from the
mine to another location to be treated and refined. This is done by
railroad cars in many locations. Engineers might be responsible for
loading material onto the car and then delivering it to its final
destination. Workers might also be needed to unload products and
place them in large bins or on the back of other vehicles once they
have delivered them to the refinery.
Coal mining is the process of locating and removing underground coal
deposits. The coal mining industry refers to the publicly and privately
owned companies in various countries that are involved in this
process. Surface mining, most commonly in the form of so-called strip
mining, and underground mining, when tunnels are dug far below the
surface, are the two main ways of mining that the coal mining industry
can access and remove coal deposits. The coal mining industry has its
origins in the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century, when it
provided an energy source for steam engines used to power trains,
ships, and factory machines. Today, the coal mined by the coal mining
industry is mainly used to produce electricity in power plants and in
steel manufacturing.
The type of mining process used by the coal mining industry to extract
a coal deposit varies depending on factors such as how deep a deposit
is located, the geology of the area, and environmental factors and
regulations. Surface mining, often in the form of strip mining, is the
most common process, and is usually done when a deposit is located
less than 300 feet (100 m) underground. This process involves the
removal of large quantities of soil and rock until the coal deposit is
reached. Deeper deposits are usually mined using underground
mining methods, where extensive tunnel systems are created to
access the coal.
Coal mining is an important industrial activity in many parts of the
world, including the United States, China, Australia, India, Russia, and
South Africa. The coal produced by the coal mining industry provides
resources for other industries in the form of electricity and refined
coal used in, for example, steel and cement making. Coal also
provides electricity to the general public. In the United States, it is
estimated that half the electricity generated is from coal-fueled power
plants.
The coal mining and coal processing performed by the coal mining
industry are expensive, large-scale industrial activities that require
large investments in machinery and manpower. Providing a safe work
environment for coal miners and limiting the environmental impact of
the mining process can be costly and challenging for the coal mining
industry. In some countries, like the United States, regulations often
require companies to restore land affected by mining and provide a
safe work environment for miners. Companies that operate in less
developed regions are often less regulated, and there coal mines can
have a devastating impact on the environment and be extremely
hazardous workplaces.
Electric car does 0 to 100kph in 2.8 seconds

A new, upgraded version of an electric car from Tesla Motors is capable of

going from 0 to 100kph in just 2.8 seconds. The original 691 horsepower Tesla
Model S P85D was already incredibly fast. It even had a function called Insane
Mode, which meant the car could get from 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds. The
upgrade is called Ludicrous Mode and will take the horsepower up to 762,
thus providing the extra power to get to 100kph in less than three seconds.
This is close to the acceleration of a Porsche 911 Turbo S supercar. That kind
of horsepower means the car can accelerate at a force of 1.1G. This means the
acceleration will make the driver feel that he or she is going faster than the
speed of falling out of an airplane.
E-mail this lesson to someone who would like to use it in classroom
or study with it. Tesla CEO Elon Musk explained that the new improvement in
acceleration came from research into an advanced battery. Engineers were
working on a new power train for its cars. A power train is the system that
delivers the power from the engine to the wheels. The engineers managed to
increase the battery power by ten per cent, resulting in the extra acceleration.
Tesla said: "Unlike a gasoline internal combustion engine with hundreds of
moving parts, Tesla electric motors have only one moving piece: the rotor. As
a result, Model S acceleration is instantaneous, silent and smooth." The Tesla
S P85D car is priced at $87,500 as a basic model; the "ludicrous" upgrade will
be an extra $13,000.
