Introduction

Bladeless fan also called as Air
Multiplier blows air from a ring with
no external blades.

A Bladeless fan is called so as the
blades are ‘not visible’ so a bladeless
fan does contain blades.

Air outflow is upto 15 times intake.

It is modern and attractive.

It is continuously replacing
traditional fans in European Bladeless Fan

countries.
History

The first concept was created by Toshiba
in 1981.

In 2009 James Dyson first introduced a
new innovation in the bladeless fan by
adding air-multiplier technology.

In 2015, Panasonic announced a
spherical bladeless fan. It is a bladeless
fan that is spherical in shape and takes in
air through one side and blows it out the
other.
Why to go for Bladeless Fan

Air flow is powerful and uniform.

Upto 40% less power consumption.

Bladeless fan throws upto 5.8 gallons air/sec.

15 times more air as intake.

It is light weight and portable.

It has an elegant and futuristic design.
Construction
Bladeless fan is made of two pieces, the outer ring piece and
the cylindrical base which could fit together in a matter of
seconds.
MAIN COMPONENTS
 Outer ring
 Cylindrical base
 Fan with Brushless DC Motor
 Power source like battery
1) OUTER RING
 It is an ‘Aerofoil’ shaped nozzle comprising an Outer Ring
interior passage.
 Nozzle comprises a surface tapering away
axis, over which the mouth is arranged to direct
from
air
flow.
 The tapered portion enhances amplification
properties which minimizing noise and
frictional losses.
 The angle between the axis should be about 15ᵒ as
it provides more efficient air flow.
2) CYLINDRICAL BASE
 The air is sucked through the tiny holes on

lot of tiny holes of 1.3mm
diameter. Tiny holes

Cylindrical base
3) FAN & BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR
 A 120mm CPU case fan blades are used as they
are specifically designed to suck as much air as
possible from one face to another
 For generating a jet of air and making it powerful
enough to function properly, the motor and fan are
designed in a way so as to suck in more than 32
litres of air/second.
 It is powered by a brushless 12V DC motor.

MATERIALS / COMPONETS
 The Ring is made of plastic from bucket an rubber pipe
 The Base is made of PVC pipe
 12V DC Motor & Fan Blades
 Battery or other power source
 Also wooden blocks and super glue are used to join the
parts
Working
Working of bladeless fan is divided into mainly four stages:-
1) AIR IS DRAWN IN
 Motor draws in almost 32 litres of air per second.
 Air is drawn in from the little vents in base.
2) AIR IS ACCELERATED
 Air is forced up and accelerated out through an annular aperture at
lower side of ring creating a jet of air.
 It passes over the 15ᵒ airfoil shaped ramp, which guides its direction.
3) AIR IS INDUCED
 As the air passes over the ramp, it draws or sucks air from behind
the fan, this process is known as inducement
 The air comes out of a 3mm slit built in the frame at a speed of
55mph
4) AIR IS ENTRAINED
 Air around the machine is also drawn into the air flow,
through a process known as entrainment.

Advantages over conventional fan
Conventional Fan Bladeless Fan

Bulky in structure Light in structure

Air current produced is choppy or uneven. Air Current is uniform and pleasant

Noisy when in operation No noise production

Air Flow can’t be focused Air Flow is focused

Reduced working area on desk. More area obtain for work on desk.

Difficult to clean. Easy To Clean

Parts like blades are projected outward No projected parts i.e design is safe for
which is less safer households with children & pets
Applications
 As a table or floor standing fan
 As window fan by mounting it in front on window
 As ceiling fan by turning it upside down
 It can be used indoor or outdoor
 It can be used to heat or cool an area faster by using it in
combination with air conditioning system thus eliminating
need of ceiling fan for air distribution
 It can be used in kids room as they are safe
Power Consumption
For Bladeless Fan
 Lowest setting: 2-3W
 Medium setting: 13-14W
 Highest setting: 31W
 Oscillation enabled: +2W

For Conventional Fan

 Consumes about 25W to 75W according to blades size on
medium setting
