Seminar on

Digital Fuel Indicator

Presented By Guide
Abhaykumar Mali Prof. Girish Joshi
Introduction

Automobile vehicle uses fuel as a basic source of

energy. In today bike fuel indicator is digital but
does not shows the exact reading i.e. the shows the
reading in bar. Thus it is necessary to the driver that
to keep the more exact information about fuel
remaining in the tank so the driver is able judge its
remaining driving distance. So this problem is taken
into consideration for exact reading and develop
the digital fuel indicator which shows the exact
amount fuel in tank.

Components Used
 Power Supply
 Transformer
 Float Sensor
 Microcontroller
 LCD Display
 Battery
 Analog To Digital Converter
Construction

1. A float with variable resistance is installed in tank at base.

2. As the float rises up results in varying resistance. Due to this
rheostat offers less resistance and flow of current increases.
3. The output of rheostat is analog signal which is given to the analog
to digital converter.
4. ADC processes these rheostat output signal i.e. AC signal and
convert them into Digital pulses. Further it is passes to the
microcontroller.
5. After that microcontroller processes these digital signal and send
to the LCD display in the form of voltage.
6. These output voltage is calibrated in terms of volume of fuel
remaining in tank or filled in tank.

Advantage:-
1. Driver knows exact quantity of fuel present in tank.
2. The digital value can be used for better estimating mileage.
3. Exact estimation of travel distance that can be covered by the
the vehicle with the fuel at hand.
4. Digital signal can be used for control application or
communication to driver through wireless app messaging.

Disadvantage:-
1. Because of electrical part it is dangerous.
2. Its cost is relatively high.
3. It is robust in construction.
4. Maintenance is high.
Cost Of Components(Approx.)

Component Cost(Rs.)
Microcontroller 800
Analog to Digital Converter 200
Float Sensor 350
LCD Display 150
Conclusion

By the comparative study of paper it is

observed that ‘Digital Fuel Indicator’ gives the
exact reading than the traditional or analog fuel
indicator system. Having a digital value of fuel
level opens vast possibilities for control
applications and IOT.
