INTRODUCTION
• It is impossible for us to work on 11KV lines to witness the function of a
relay.

• Here, we have made a single phase voltage injection kit which will nearly
inject voltage in terms of 11KV but it in a reduced way.

• Voltage injection kit is normally used to check the condition and operation
of the equipment on the primary as well as secondary of transmission.

• It will inject both nominal voltage as well as fault voltage to check the
operation of relay MV12.

VARIABLE AUTOTRANSFORMER
• It is an electrical transformer with
one winding with usual magnetic
core.
• In an autotransformer, portions of
same winding act as both the primary
and secondary sides of the
transformer.
• It is also known as ‘Variac’ as it can
vary the voltage from zero to the
rated value smoothly.
POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
•A potential transformer is a step
down transformer used to lower the
voltage rating which can be applied
to low rating meters.
• PT has lower turns at secondary side
as compared to primary side.
• The system voltage is applied at the
primary side and proportionate
voltage is taken at the secondary side.
BRIDGE RECTIFIER
•A full wave bridge rectifier is a
combination of four diodes
connected to form a bridge.
• It uses both half cycles of AC and
convert it to give DC.
• The transformer secondary is
connected to one of the opposite
points of the bridge and load is
connected to other opposite points.
TIME INTERVAL METER

•A time interval is the measurement of

elapsed time between start and stop.
• Time interval is an important
measurement frequently made with
electronic counters.
• The counter makes an elapsed time
measurement between two electrical
pulses.
• Itcan calculate electrical delays, pulse
widths and other time related phenomena.
DIGITAL VOLTMETER
• A digital voltmeter measures an unknown input
voltage by converting into digital value.
• The digital value measured is displayed in
numeric form.
• It’s measurement accuracy is affected by
temperature, input impedance and power
supply variations.
ROTARY SWITCH

•A rotary switch operates with a

twisting motion of the operating
handle with at least two positions.
• It may have multiple levels in order to
control multiple circuits.
RELAY
• A protective Relay is a device that detects the
fault and initiates the operation of circuit
breaker to isolate the defective element from
the rest of the system.
• When a fault occurs at point F on the line the
current flowing in the line increases to an
dangerous value this results in heavy current
flows through the relay coil, causing the relay
to operate by closing its contacts.
• Thus inturn closes the trip circuit of the circuit
breaker and the circuit breaker gets open.
BLOCK DIAGRAM
WORKING
• Single phase AC supply is fed to the Voltage Injection Kit and with the
help of Rotary Switch 1 voltage is given to different components.
• An Autotransformer, two Auxiliary PT’s, Voltmeter and Timer is
connected to the Rotary Switch 1.
• Autotransformer is further connected to Rotary Switch 2 which will
help in feeding fault voltage to the relay system.
• The Rotary Switch is used to give nominal voltage as well as fault
voltage to the relay system.
• The accurate tripping time will be calculated by timer as soon as a fault
voltage will be fed.
WIRING DIAGRAM
• Single phase AC supply is fed to Rotary Switch 1 through a fuse.
• Auxiliary supply switch is connected in parallel from the output terminals of
Rotary Switch 1.
• Two Auxiliary Potential Transformers are connected in parallel which are
connected to the output terminals of Auxiliary supply switch.
• The output of Potential Transformer 1 is connected to Bridge Rectifier where
AC is converted into DC. This DC supply is given to the components of
microcontroller through DC output terminals.
• The Potential Transformer 2 is used to produce Nominal voltage for the relay
MV12.
• The phase and neutral terminals of Auto transformer (terminals B & C) and
Timer (terminals 1 & 2) are connected to the output terminals of Rotary
switch 1.
• The Nominal voltage is fed to the relay when Rotary Switch 2 is at position 1
between terminal A1 and terminal 2 of rotary switch from Auxiliary supply.
• The fault voltage is fed to the relay when Rotary Switch 2 is at position 2
between terminal A2 and D2 of Rotary switch 2 by using an Autotransformer.
• The timer is connected to the Rotary Switch 2 and when it is turned to 2nd
position, the fault voltage is fed and at that particular time, the timer starts
counting the trip time in seconds.
• A RESET button is used to reset the timer after each operation and it is
connected across terminal 5 and terminal 6 of Timer.
• A NO contact is connected to terminal 2 and terminal 4 of a timer and the
timer stops counting the time when the relayMV12 trips.
• The output is taken from terminal C3 and terminal 4 through a output
terminals.
• A relay is connected inside the kit to protect the kit from abnormal conditions.
ADVANTAGES
• Correct operation of the protecting scheme.
• To test different types of relay.
• Fault voltage detection.
• Accurate tripping time.
• Portability.
DISADVANTAGES
• Cost is very high.
• It does not verify the current sensors or circuit breakers current
carrying components.
APPLICATIONS
• Educational Institutions
• Industries
• In relay manufacturing companies
• Substations
CONCLUSION
• The main benefit of this Voltage Injection Kit is different relays
can be tested.

• The tripping characteristics can be achieved with the help of the

kit.

• In our opinion, we can witness the operation of relay by injecting

fault voltage on the relay which is act as protective device on
secondary side.
